I'm going to cut Spenser some slack. He was recruited by the White House for an Internal Affairs project. To make sure CTU was operating honestly. If you can't trust the White House, who can you trust?

Did Mrs. Logan manage to change her clothes, or is she on the lam in her PJ's? For a second there they had me believing she killed herself.

Can someone recap the part where President Logan found out about Cummings and what all Cummings said to justify his actions. I missed that part!

Edit - Actually if someone can recap the whole show that would be better - I was in the middle of something and only caught bits and pieces. I should have taped it but I thought I'd be able to devote my full attention to it.

Did anyone notice the look on the First Lady's face at the very end. She had a smug smile on her face like she was going to make Logan pay for not believing her - I love it!

i don't have time to recap but did anyone see the previews for next episode...the person in the penthouse, you could only see the top of the hair and hands but it looked like Teri Bauer!!!! is it just me who saw that? the hair and small hands made me think that right away.

OK, ask and ye shall receive...

CTU knows from Spenser that Walt Cummings ordered an assassin into CTU. Jack has a plan. He wants to meet with Mike Novick secretly to tell him what he knows because he is sure Mike is a loyal patriot. Lynn McGill approves the plan because Jack can operate as a private citizen.

Meanwhile, Derek and his mom are cleared to leave. Jack tells them he probably can't go back with them. Derek's mom figures out that Jack and Audrey have had past relations. Jack tells her so.

Jack drives off to see Mike. Meanwhile, the billionaire bad guy has overheard the conversation and tells Walt Cummings about this. He says to Walt, "You know what to do." Aaron Pierce, longtime Palmer secret service agent finds Mrs. Logan. Mrs. Logan starts telling him all her wild conspiracy theories as she is brought back. Jack arrives at the president's place and waits for Mike. Audrey calls and they both profess their love for one another.

Walt goes to talk to the president. He tells him that Jack Bauer is coming to implicate him in the terrorist plot and that Bauer is telling the truth. Logan is shocked and starts calling Walt a traitor, especially after Walt admits that he was involved in setting up Palmer's death. Finally, Walt gets Logan to shut up and he explains himself. Walt says that the nerve gas is on its way out of the country to a Russian terrorist camp. Once it arrives at the camp, one of his men will remotely detonate it. It will kill the terrorists and prove that the terrorists have WMDs. The United States can then expand the war on terror into central Asia. American military would enter the region and that region just happens to have tons of oil. Walt says he did everything for the best interests of the country and preserving its pre-eminence. Finally, Walt adds that there is nothing they can do now anyways. The canisters are gone and Walt's inside man has gone dark. Walt advises the President to follow his plan, lest his administration be tainted with the legacy of working with terrorists.

Mike drives up. Jack goes to talk to him and then he hears helicopters. The secret service arrest Jack and Mike on orders from the president. The president is concerned about Walt's new plan because he won't be able to explain why Mike was arrested. At Walt's request, he also orders CTU to stop investigating the canisters. Bauer is taken into custody inside the president's building inview of Aaron Pierce. Aaron asks another agent why he wasn't informed Bauer was there and why Bauer was arrested. He is told Walt Cummings told us to.

Meanwhile at CTU, Lynn McGill gets the order from the president and can't reach him to tell him what a bad idea it is. He feels he has no choice but to obey orders and cancel their investigation. Bill Buchanan snaps at McGill, saying that's ridiculous and shows a lack of experience. Lynn tells Buchanan to step outside. Then Buchanan wises up Samwise by telling him that we all know that if the operation is transferred they will lose the canisters, so they must disregard the order for the good of the country. Lynn is mad, but eventually he agrees with Buchanan.

Back at the President's place, Jack is being moved to a prison. Pierce tells Jack that. They are alone when Jack starts to tell Pierce about the conspiracy in the government and about Walt Cummings. Pierce is not shocked and says he's heard stuff about this from the first lady. Jack says that for the good of the country, he must help him.

Pierce announces that Bauer has escaped! Pierce orders all agents to the west gate where Bauer was headed. Pierce goes to see the President and brings Jack Bauer with him. Jack starts yelling about how Walt betrayed the nation, how he helped the terrorists and killed Palmer. Walt and Logan start saying stuff to calm him, but Bauer, in classic Jack fashion, jumps on Walt and starts beating him. The president says he knows about everything-- he learned just minutes ago, and that its ok. Bauer says its not ok and goes back to beating the crap out of Walt while saying "Where is the gas?" Walt says, "I don't know." Jack pulls out his knife and says he'll cut out both his eyes if he doesn't tell. Walt gets scared and gives up the truth. They are in a cargo container at the pier. Jack lets him go. Then the president, in a sudden change of heart, orders Walt arrested and commends Jack and Pierce.

Mrs. Logan is almost sent off, but the president comes to tell her that she was right all along. She is not committed and goes back in the house.

CTU is back on the case. They figure out where the canisters are and put tactical teams in position. They bust open the container and find a dead man. After opening the crates, they find nothing. Jack calls for Cummings. After another round of "Where is the nerve gas" Walt notices the picture on the screen. The dead man in the container is the "inside man." Walt gets a call from the terrorists. They tell him they learned about his plan and have fixed the detonators. They will now use the nerve gas against the US in retalitation!

NEXT WEEK on 24...

President Logan says he needs Bauer's help to stop the terrorists. Tactical teams are in a penthouse and they tell some one to stand up hands raised. We don't know who. I can't remember anything else from the previews, but I'll post if I see commercials.
