I knew that he was going to find out about the baby after Servillia gained the info, and that that info would be kept quiet until a strategic moment!! Whoa!!!

I kept waiting for the "Et tu, Brute?"!! I guess that was Shakespeare's little addition.

You could see that Octavian was already planning to avenge the threat against his mother, no matter how long it took.

I'm still not believing that we've got to wait until 2007.

You're right From what I've read, Caesar may have said something to the effect of "and you too, child?" to Brutus, so I was waiting for that. He was beyond speaking by the time they got done with him.

I have a paper to write tonight, so I don't have much time to comment on the season finale right now (famous last words!). Even though I knew it was coming and even how it happened, I was still jarred by Caesar's murder and the violence and immediacy of it. While I don't know that any murder can be "honorable" like Brutus said, it was certainly less cowardly than poisoning him or having him killed in his sleep. The public nature of the act and the participation of so many senators made it even more shocking. Antony will be out for revenge (and more...), along with Octavian. That look he gave Servilia.... she'd better look out! He's not a little boy any longer.

I was shocked by Niobe's suicide. Did she do it out of shame or because she thought Lucius would kill her anyway? They were so happy this episode. I was thinking how much I was liking Niobe and how much her relationship with Lucius had grown. Now what will he do? Caesar is dead. His wife is dead. Pullo is gone.

I don't think the Forrest Gump comments were in any way referring to the intelligence level of Pullo or any lack of awareness. It's more the way that he happens to fall on his feet and into the middle of historical events without trying. PhoneGrrrl - I hope he isn't like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern - I want him to stick around! It will be interesting to see how they bring him back to Rome.

I don't care how manipulative Atia is, I still don't want Servilia to win that battle. There's just something spineless about Servilia that I don't like. Atia is way more proactive in getting what she wants. The way Servilia manipulated Brutus just to get her revenge for being dumped by Caesar... *shivers*

SO - we have about a year and a half (*sob*) until season two begins. Any guesses as to how far into the future will the action pick up? AND.... when the season one DVD will be out?

I was surprised at the reluctance and remorse that Brutus showed in his participation in Caesar's murder.

Now, Octavian has to do the "honorable" thing in his mother's name, where Atia is concerned; a self-perpetuating cycle.

I think the answers to all questions above are, "Yes". Shame, guilt, fear, humiliation, and any other term of which you can think. She knows that when the word gets out, she has greatly disgraced a respected, ranking public figure, and her entire family. She may not be able to live in their society again. So, in her mind, did she do the "honorable" thing.

I don't think the Forrest Gump comments were in any way referring to the intelligence level of Pullo or any lack of awareness. It's more the way that he happens to fall on his feet and into the middle of historical events without trying. Didn't Pullo say that he was going to the country "for a day" and that he would be back? This day is going to last for over a year!

I don't care how manipulative Atia is, I still don't want Servilia to win that battle. There's just something spineless about Servilia that I don't like. Both women are very vicious, in different ways. I don't know which one to fault. Servillia personifies the phrase, "Hell hath no fury...." I do think Atia got served a plate of cold revenge. Servillia's got that passive-aggressive thing going on, and that's putting it mildly! BUT.......what she endured at Atia's command........unforgiveable. Talk about "giving as good as you get...., if not "better". Here we go, again, with the "self-perpetuating" issues.

I hope they power it out and make lots of episodes, then. I'm glad they're not stopping with the death of Caesar, though. I was sorry to see him go, even though I knew it was inevitable. The actor did a great job portraying the character. Well, they all do. Everything about this show is superb.

Could you pick a favorite male and female character on the show? I think they all do so well it is very hard to choose, but for me probably Octavian and Attia.

As a bonus category, throughout the season the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern-ish duo of Varenus and Pullo was genius.

Love this show. Cairean Hinds did a wonderful job portraying the death scene by stabbing. I'm sorry he won't be back. They will probably continue with the two main protagonists Pullo and Varenus (his wife's death was sad), and will have to get a new character for Octavia so they can age him.

Brutus was portrayed much younger than he really was. He was actually two years older than Mark Antony and was about 39-40 when Caesar died.

My favorite characters are Atia - deliciously amoral and Mark Antony - the classic charming rogue. I also like Varenus and Pullo.

I hope we don't have to wait until 2007 to see the rest!!

Since they don't resume shooting until next spring, we'll be waiting at least a year, maybe more, before HBO starts airing season two.

I hope they don't recast Octavian! Max Pirkis is doing a fabulous job and what with all those hormones, he should be maturing quickly now. He'll be 17 in (I think) January, so I think he'll be fine. Just look how much he matured this season, alone. I'm just not going to "feel it" as much if they recast him.

ITA - Ciaran Hinds did a great job from beginning to bloody end. I always see everything he's in, so I'll be looking for him now that he's freed up for other projects. It can't be easy shooting a show in Italy for all that time. He was probably happy to get back to his family.

Favorite characters? Of course, Atia and either Pullo or Vorenus.... or Antony Too many to choose from!

If they get Max Pirkis into the gym and he starts pumping some iron, he'll probably be looking significantly different by the time the next season begins. He's got that skinny, little boy body working now. It's amazing what muscle can do!

I think you're right Just look at the difference in him from Master and Commander and now... even from the beginning of the season of Rome vs. the end of the season. If he fills out a bit, I think he can carry it off.... unless he has a HUGE growth spurt and ends up over 6' tall and gawky. It would be a shame if they had to recast - he's such a good actor and I really want to see him play the role in the next phase of Octavian's story.

We just need to get him hooked up with a college football team's training program and training table. That should do the trick! No Actual Football, of course. As guys go, that would probably even be fun for him!

Have never seen Master and Commander, but now I'd like to check it out. Is it a series?

Russell Crowe movie from 2003 - Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. It plays on HBO a lot lately. My b/f watches it every time it comes on. One of his favorite movies.
