Billy Baldwin in NBC Legal Drama

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Billy Baldwin ("Backdraft") is finalizing a deal to lead the ensemble cast of "EDNY," an NBC drama pilot about a team of U.S. attorneys.

The project was one of two cast-contingent pilot orders, along with "Law Dogs," duking it out for the sixth hourlong pilot slot on NBC's development slate. With the Baldwin deal in place, pilot production will go forward on "EDNY" -- and likely not on "Law Dogs."

Tony Drazan ("The Negotiator") will write, executive produce and possibly direct "EDNY," which stands for Eastern District New York. Baldwin will portray Mike "Mad Dog" Kelly, the ensemble's central character, a supercharged, brilliant prosecutor.

Baldwin starred in a CBS pilot last year from Universal called "R.U.S.H.," which did not wind up going to series. His credits also include indie feature "One-Eyed King."
