Now she looks exhausted all the time. Which, I can understand with the hours she works, but the other interns work just as hard and the only other one who ever looks really tired and beat down is George. Izzy always looks fresh as a daisy and Alex..his look never really changes. I don't know if the actress is just living hard or if the set hair and make-up people are striving for that "I've been through hell and back" look.
It''s funny, on a recent episode she looked made up and much "better" and I thought the powers that be had decided she needed a make over, but now she seems back to the same strained Mer, or maybe I'm mixing old shows with new ones with all the reruns.

I can relate, PWS. All the jumping around with the reruns makes me lose track, too.

On another tack, I saw a picture of Renee Zellweger with her hair pulled back and thought it was Ellen Pompeo. Seriously!

I think there is such a thing as being too thin and it's not that appealing on a lot of people (including Ellen Pompeo and Renee). Katherine Heigl has a fuller face and that makes her look youthful (well, that and the fact that she's in her 20's in real life as well!). Ellen is so thin and frail...I think if she had maybe 10 more pounds on her, he'd still be super slim but a little less haggard looking.

I remember exactly the episode that you were talking about, because I noticed that she looked much better, too. Her hair was fluffed up a bit, and it looked like he was wearing a little more make up. I remember thinking, "I wonder if the people who have talked about her looking haggard are noticing this better look." It seemed to be only for that episode, though. Maybe it was right after she had gone through her near drowning? I agree with you guys, though. She is one haggard looking little woman. And about Katherine Heigel looking so much better...I honestly think some people have to work harder at looking good than others. I don't think it's that hard to make Heigel look good. Maybe it's weight...maybe it's genetics...maybe it's some people just care more than others?

I agree. She weighed a little more when the show first started and that might be why she looked younger.

For the first year and a half I had a little crush on Ellen. As my sister noted, she's my type. However, over time, I warmed to Katherine

It's not a mistake I've used the actressís names instead of the character's names. As the characters go, I'm losing interest in both of them.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

I'm probably the only one here who likes Meredith (most of the time) and even though she can look a bit rough at times and is too skinny, I still think she's pretty. Izzie on the other hand, I don't care for anymore. She is very judgemental. I still remember how she treated Olivia, calling her syph nurse and pretty much having a high and mighty attitude when Olivia apologized to her when she slept with Alex, saying she didn't know they were involved. And her treatment of Callie has been inexcusable imo. Pretty on the outside, but ugly on the inside.

When I saw that photo I posted about earlier, my first thought was, "My Lord, woman, eat a steak!"

No I still like her most of the time too.. but then again, I like most of the cast, most of the time. Hell I even like Burke... IW, not so much.

As far as Izzy goes, or at least her attitude, in some cases she is in the right. If someone slept with they guy i was seeing, knowingly or not, i'd pretty much call her and him everyname in the book and I don't think Syph Nurse would be the worst.

To me Izzy is this adult-child that needs a hug every once in a while but needs to have a kick in the butt to get her head on right. She had to grow up pretty quick and didn't have an easy life. Shes also had to deal with a lot of morons about her beauty (if you will) vrs brains. Its as if shes never been allowed to her just her. I honestly don't think she has learned how to be an adult. The way she is to Callie is because of George.. she knows he married her for the wrong reasons and really has no idea how to express that emotion except to be blunt to George about it and feels that Callie took advantage of it to some point.

    Re: Grey's Anatomy

Firewoman, your mentioning Izzy's having to grow up fast sparked a thought for me in what I think is the biggest weakness in the show. The very best TV shows are based in great characters. The writers really really know the characters - what drives them, what their history is, how they react to things, etc. As plotlines move along, they're guided by their knowledge of each character's personality to know what direction things should go.

I'm starting to think that the writers of Grey's really don't "know" their characters. Instead of letting the characters drive the plots, they let the plots develop the characters, which leaves a lot of inconsistency. Using Izzy as an example, we know she has to be very determined and driven to have come from the background she did and come up with a way to model her way through med school, winding up with no great debt from college loans. So how could a woman so driven and determined be so non-chalant about her career when it comes to some of the obstacles she faces? Each character has many inconsistencies like this.

I don't think the writers are really rooting themselves in the core of each character. They're coming up with story ideas, and inconsistently molding each of the characters into the place they need them to be to make the plot happen. As a result, viewers lose the ability to really relate to the characters (both good and bad) with any consistency because the characters they "know" are constantly changing.
