When WP took his previous sabattical it was to do a Shakespearian play somewhere in Michigan. At the time he said he really missed his stage acting roots and wanted to get back to it. His contract was only good until 2007so we're lucky to have had him this long. I can't remember where I read the article but I do remember that WP said he was leaving to go back to the stage.
Grissom and Willows are the whole show for me so I'm not sure how I'll feel about someone else stepping into WP's shoes. I hope it's an engaging character and not some tight ass like Eckley. Either way there is no chance that WP's replacement will ever be as cheesy as CSI:M's Caruso! As long as Grissom takes Sidle with him when he goes I'll be ok with it

You know it's funny, but I always thought that Willows and Grissom should have been a couple. The Sarah Sidle thing was always kind of weird, on so may levels. I mean we all watched ER.

I'm thinking that now would be a good time to cancel the show, to quit while they're on top, before they loose too much of the core. Of course, I would find it boring if they were to cancel, but I'd rather they cancel before they become bad, jump the shark if you will. I'd rather see a good show get cancelled when it has run its course than to see it desperately cling on for a few more seasons.

IMO, if they're going to replace Grissom's character, I doubt it would be with Ecklie, does anyone like him? I think it's more likely that they move everyone up one pinhole, making Catherine the head and bring in someone new. But maybe it would be more interesting dynamics to give them a whole new boss, someone likeable unlike Ecklie.

And I totally agree about Caruso.

Personally, I loved it when Liev Schreiber was the temporary head (too back they killed him off), so I'm not entirely dismayed by WP's departure. As long as, as was mentioned, the replacement is of much higher quality than Caruso.

    Re: CSI

What if Caruso (POSER!) came in while they ran through candidates for Grissom's position ... Caruso is on the tail of some Mala Nocha gang who are setting up a new high rise casino in (Gasp!) Vegas ! They could then fly Mac from NY in to take out the gang while Caruso poses "Charlie's Angels' style" with his weapon. Meanwhile, Nick's crew could quietly be locking up the 'gang'. Caleigh takes over in Miami and Danny does in NY.

    Or maybe not.

Well, we have a replacement for Gil: Laurence Fishburne. I'm a big fan, so I am more than okay with this.

Good choice. I cannot stand Caruso.

LF will be great in the job (if I could only stop thinking of him as the cowboy in PeeWee's house!)
