Purgatory I think they are all dead. Everyone died from the crash. They are in Purgatory. If you think about all the backstories we have seen so far, everyone's character has shown both good and evil. That would explain all the "magical" powers and things that are unexplainable on the island. What do you guys think?

The hotel concierge mentioned Jack's father's name as Sheppard or Shepherd.

Thanks, JulyMeg, for finding out Jack's last name! I think you're right that it implies that the people need him as a shepherd or leader. I'm not saying it is intentionally related, but the mention of the name Shepherd reminded me of one of the most famous references to being a shepherd... Psalm 23. "The Lord is my shepard. I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul... Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me..." Perhaps I like it because it ties in with my "fear" theme... ![]() One other thing... Boone asked Jack "Why do you think that you have to be everyone's saviour?" At the time, I remember thinking this was a weird choice of words... so far Jack had been called hero, but never saviour. On a different note, if we find out Charlies' last name is Brown, I will ![]()

You're welcome touque! That's great stuff you just mentioned, too-- interesting that the name "Shepherd" would make people think of religious references, while Jack, as we have seen, claims religion "is not [his] thing." Hmmm...

I think Jack's dad is dead. His subconcious dug up his father because Jack wants to prove that he isn't a loser or a failure. "Look, Dad, these people depend on me, they look up to me and they respect me." Empty coffin? Maybe it isn't empty (ugh!) and Jack's mind refuses to acknowledge it.

| Then he'd better "pace" himself with those drugs. He wasn't the drummer for the band was he? (Setting the "pace")
