| Great episode I'm so loving the fact that every episode we get to explore each character's background and some of their secrets. Interesting info on Jack.....I think the way his father was and all the turmoil he went through his younger years, helped Jack to be the strong man he is today. It will also help him be a leader to the rest of the survivors, and these people definitely need a strong person to lead them. I loved the part with Jack seeing his father's illusion on the island...very creepy, just makes me wonder about all these secrets that these people hold, and are things actually as we see them?? My guess is...no...there is so much more than meets the eye. I can't wait to explore the rest of the characters, and this island. ![]() |

| "Strawberry Fields Forever" naturally took me on a search to interpret Lennon's lyrics. Thought his words to Imagine are especially fitting here. (thanks for indulging me) ~Imagine~ (by John Lennon) Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people Living for today Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people Sharing all the world You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will live as one

| I know, I know :rolleyes double posting drives me nuts, too, but thought I'd throw out some Lewis Carroll for all you other s and sleuthers. Speculate away!THE WHITE RABBIT'S VERSES by: Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) They told me you had been to her, And mentioned me to him; She gave me a good character, But said I could not swim. He sent them word I had not gone. (We know it to be true.) If she should push the matter on, What would become of you? I gave her one, they gave him two, You gave us three or more; They all returned from him to you, Though they were mine before. If I or she should chance to be Involved in this affair, He trusts to you to set them free, Exactly as we were. My notion was that you had been (Before she had this fit) An obstacle that came between Him and ourselves and it. Don't let him know she liked them best, For this must ever be A secret, kept from all the rest, Between yourself and me.

I don't buy into Jack as alcoholic experiencing withdrawl. He did get whipped into joining the "family business", but I expect that he resisted becoming carbon copy of dad. He would have gone to greater lengths, in my mind, to get more miniature alcohol on the plane jad he had the need for it. He seemed grateful enough for the flight attendents gesture, but only to the degree that a person that had had a sucky day would have expressed. | |

When my dad died recently, and we took his clothes up to the funeral home, we were told to bring everything EXCEPT shoes. I didn't know - up until that point - that typically they don't put shoes on the body that is to be buried. So . . . it could be that Jack's dad's body WAS on the plane - in the now empty coffin - and that if he DID experience his own miracle, he would have had to find shoes, because he would have been shoeless. Too much of a stretch???

ETA: it wouldn't stand out at all if the father were wearing matching dress shoes, so I think the sneakers must mean something. My theory on what Jack did: I think he quit practicing medicine, thus letting the old man down and sending him on a bender. I love the idea that he turned his father in on something, though. That's cool.

| OK - so the impaired can walk again (reunited with his old life), Jack father comes back to life ....does that explain why they were able to find Walt's dog? Has he also been reunited? And that women's husband - maybe they will be reunited and he will get his ring back on his finger?

| Like Gutmutter said a couple of episodes ago, when they show more background on the characters, it only opens up more questions! I'm having a hard time figuring out what Jack did that was so bad that his mother would talk to him that way. I get the feeling that his dad was always an alcoholic due to the fact that it showed him drinking when Jack was young. Obviously it escalated as the hotel room his dad was staying in was loaded with alcohol and prescription drugs, and the hotel manager (?) said that his dad would not be granted permission of a car. So I just chalked up the sound of ice clinking in a glass while in the jungle as a "clue" as to where his "dad" was - it basically led Jack to the waterfall. When he found the doll in the water, it creeped me out, and I thought it was symbolism of the lady that drowned at the beginning of the episode. I know this has already been discussed as well, but the fact that his father was NOT in the coffin has me so confused - was he on the plane or not? Is he dead or not? Will Jack continue to have hallucinations or will he finally get some sleep? The previews for next week's show are SO intense. What did Michael do to make Jin so mad that he tried to kill him? And what was up with Boone being so angry at Jack that he lashed out on him as well as stole the water? Boone struck me as the type of person to stay calm under stress and handle things well, looking out for the good of others. I can understand that he was upset that the woman drowned, but at least his life was saved. And why retaliate by taking the water? Perhaps he and his sister are more alike that we thought. |

| Read at TVGuide.com (watercooler) that Boone was reading Watership Down on the beach in last nights episode *note to self - pay more attention!*. I read that YEARS ago , but for those of you not familiar, here is a link to a plot summary:http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/watership/summary.html
