| I noticed the shoes too, Jay. ![]() And I interpreted the ice-tinkling noise to the idea that Jack's dad drank so much that he associated that noise with his father.

Just occured to me. "Living is easier with eyes closed" Does anyone want to make guesses as to what this might mean within the context of the show? -My first thought was drug or alcohol dependancy helps living to be easier because you live in kind of unreal haze. Seems to have become a theme. -My second thought is when you are dead, generally they close your eyes. Could their living become easier because they are dead?? Would be true for Locke.... That's a stretch but it's just a thought. | |

| Jack said to his mother that his father hasn't spoken to him in two months. What did Jack do or didn't do that disappointed his father? I think that Jack, throughout his entire life, could not do anything that would please his father. Recall his father calling Jack onto the carpet for trying to save his friend from bullies. |

| This has been mentioned by someone else before... but perhaps he lost his license to practice medicine somehow?? |

| I wonder if maybe Jack had decided he didn't enjoy medicine and didn't want to continue being a doctor, and that's why he and his father were estranged. ![]()

| I can see his father pushing Jack into medicine to become a surgeon like him. Strawberry Fields sounds like a refuge, a refuge from the stresses of life. Some of the characters have had to deal with stress before the crash. I wish we knew more about Hurley, Sawyer, Boone and Shannon and what their stories are. |

| Ok - probably out a a limb here, but I was thinking somehow Jack destroyed his father's abilities/career as a surgeon (maybe, under pressure, botched an operation on his dad somehow, leaving him unable to operate and causing him to take Chief of Surgery managerial/admin position instead of actually operating) OR that he turned his father in / testified against him in some sort of malpractice claim. That would have turned his father to the bottle.
