Maybe it was the mother boar that stopped the monster from killing Locke. The boar came to save its young, and battled the monster. Locke came back to claim the kill.

However, locke had a more scratches and blood on him. Maybe the boar heard Locke scream and came to his rescue (thinking it was the baby boar).

So cool they keep upping the ante each week, revealing weirder facts of what's going on.

It seems like he throws in just enough humor sometimes to try and balance out the drama a little.

Locke must have had some sort of communication with the monster. Otherwise he would have discussed it with Walt's father when he asked about it. In fact, he denied even seeing the monster. I'm pretty much in agreement with the poster here who said the kid basically brought the polar bear to life from his comic book and this is more evidence that something very strange and supernatural is going on.
