    'ER' Doesn't Renew Kingston's Contract

    'ER' Doesn't Renew Kingston's Contract

Mon Jun 7, 1:52 PM ET

LONDON - Alex Kingston says she's being axed from "ER" for being too old.

The British actress, who plays Dr. Elizabeth Corday on the long-running medical drama, said she was recently told that after seven years on the show, her contract would not be renewed.

In an interview with Radio Times magazine, Kingston, 41, said the program was increasingly focused on young characters, "and apparently I, according to the producers and the writers, am part of the old fogeys who are no longer interesting."

"In that respect it's a shame. It's fine to have young med students, but you need to have figures of authority, people of different ages, races, shapes and sizes," she said.

Kingston said being let go "was a shock and obviously upsetting, but it's just your ego that's upset. Then I got over it."

Kingston, who starred as a warrior queen in the British drama "Boudica" last year, said she plans to return to Britain for film and television work

"Scariness comes from not knowing whether I can do it any more, because I've been playing one role for so long," she said. "Admittedly, I've done little bits and pieces, but I'm very excited about getting back to the U.K."

Hey there is still a lot of "Babe" left in her!!! Idiot Network doofus' don't have a clue!!! and the Producers are bowing to them. Figures its NBC, this is the network that just showed the second half of the Crossing Jordan season ending cliff hanger after this season is over. Who does that? Idiots... if they get any worse, they will have to rename themselves ABC2.

    What a load of baloney!

I've been disappointed that she hasn't had more of a role since Mark died. We've seen plotlines revolve around all of the other characters but Corday has just been "there" for most of that time. It's hard to believe that she's been on for 7 years.

That sucks. I like her. Why on earth they want to revolve around the young med students is beyond me. They are NOT interesting at all. Corday, Weaver and Abby were the only reason to watch this show.. Everyone else is boring.

    Another big old grumpy

Meh. Corday and Weaver are 2 of my favorite characters now. Frankly I like seeing the older, established ladies at the hospital with storylines too. :phhht Something's gotta balance out the frantic nutbars like Neela. Even Abby is getting on my nerves lately.

ER is a terrific, well written, expertly acted show. But its one major flaw has always been that, while this is an "ensemble" cast, the writers have tended to focus way too much time and attention on a select few charecters, while other charecters and their story-lines are left to wither and die on the vine - including Lizzie Corday.

I liked Elizabeth's character. It's too bad that they are showing her the door. IMO, it's a mistake.

That's a real shame. I really liked her character, and I though she should have had more of a storyline last season. I was really surprised by this, and I believe they made a really bad decision.
