"24" Suffers More Casualties **Spoilers on who won't be back**

    "24" Suffers More Casualties

A deadly virus failed to wipe out of the staff of 24's CTU, but the actors have been pink-slipped anyway.

Several series regulars were recently informed that their options would not be picked up for next season, a publicist for the Fox show confirmed Monday.

Among the outgoing: Reiko Aylesworth (Michelle Dessler) and James Badge Dale (Chase Edmunds), who got the bad news before attending a Fox party after the network's upfront presentation to advertisers last Thursday, according the Hollywood Reporter.

Joining them on the unemployment line will be 24 vet Carlos Bernard (Tony Almeida), last seen about to face treason charges and a possible death sentence for breaking protocol to save his kidnapped wife, played by Aylesworth.

All three figure to play big parts in Tuesday night's season-three finale.

And while Fox remains mum on the characters' fates, all three are expected to make guest appearances during the fourth season, which begins its 'round-the-clock countdown in January. Other soon-to-be unemployed actors include recurring cast members Mary Lynn Rajskub, Zachary Quinto and Daniel Dae Kim, who all played CTU agents.

The shake-up is par for the course on the real time TV thriller, which has mercilessly killed off series regulars since the beginning. R.I.P. Teri Bauer (played by Leslie Hope), Jack Bauer's wife and season one victim. Ditto, CTU's George Mason (played by Xander Berkeley) who committed hara-kiri in season two. Burn in hell Nina Myers (played by Sarah Clarke), killed in action earlier in season three.

In fact, the only original thesps to remain employed from season one are Kiefer Sutherland, Dennis Haysbert and Elisha Cuthbert. However, Cuthbert is expected to be downgraded to recurring cast member next season to concentrate on her burgeoning film career. Most recently, she played a former porn star in The Girl Next Door.

Meanwhile, fans of the show have probably seen the last of Penny Johnson Jerald, who was never expected to survive past the first season as President Palmer's scheming ex-wife Sherry Palmer. She went from recurring (first season) to regular (second season) and back to recurring this past season. And while it's wise not to underestimate the former Mrs. Palmer, two slugs to the stomach should effectively terminate her wily ways. Or not

I love this show...I agree with you, Cuthbert being downgraded to a recurring cast member is the "best decision yet." Thanks for the info!

Absolutely love this show! I gather that Kiefer is staying..thank goodness. I hate that Chase, Tony, and Michelle are leaving. Does that mean Chloe is staying? Who are the other CTU agents leaving? I'm not sure if anyone has these answers but I thought I'd throw them out anyway. I say keep Sherry Palmer (I know...too late!) as his "wife" just to torment him another season and get rid of Wayne. Can't wait for the season finale!!

Mary Lynn Rajskub is Chloe, so she won't be back.
Zachary Quinto is Adam Kaufman, Kim's co-worker.
Daniel Dae Kim is Agent Tom Baker, one of the field agents (the asian).

I can mark it as containing spoilers... But the title should give everyone a hint at what they'll be reading, right?

not necessarily, "casualties" could mean many things....

Thanks John! That's a major cast uprising! So, Jack and the President with Kim in a minor role are staying and everyone else will be new then. Talk about shaking things up on an already great show! Is that smart? Will they lose viewers? Maybe not, since Jack and the President are the only major characters along with Tony and Michelle. They are probably jumping ahead a few years again and everyone is moving up in CTU or changing jobs except for Jack, risking everything to save us all!

Wait! Isn't this a tv show? Sorry, got off track!
