Marty and Erin should have called in a Supernanny many, many years ago! Lousy parents who raised lousy children. It's a sin and a shame.

    Re: Dr. Phil

This family was first on when I was routinely watching the Dr. Phil show. I have recently been keeping up with the family most Mondays and it's very UNsurprising that Marty and Erin have had extra marital affairs. In the very beginning it was so obvious that there were problems between the parents. I don't think Dr. Phil is doing that family any favors by encouraging the parents to stay in that marriage. Although, I can't imagine anyone else wanting to be with them either. It's too often the case that when a child acts out, (ex. teen pregnancy(ies)), that it's only the external symptom of the underlying family problems.

I was very sad to hear that she is now pregnant with a third baby, especially with the custody of her children hanging in the balance. It's abundantly clear that Alex won't or can't put her children's needs in front of her own. As a mother, I can't even begin to comprehend that mindset.

It's very sad, but I don't see anyone in their lives that should have the blessing of being able to raise those children. I'm sure Erin loves her grandchildren, and it appears she's been the constant in their lives, but her life is such a wreck, she's going to mess up those kids just as sure as she messed up her own. All in all, it's a pretty depressing situation.

OMG ... did anyone see the epi that aired on Monday, Memorial Day ... ? I just watched it and it is probably the saddest epi ever ... a lovely couple from TX with the world's only TRIPLETS that are deaf and blind. Just so sad yet this Mom is one amazing Mom ... she will be going STRAIGHT TO HEAVEN!

    What a show.

I watched recently, but hadn't for quite some time.
The family's a disaster and years with Dr Phil hasn't improved their situation at all.
IMO, he has no business providing Alex with a lawyer for her custody battle when it seems quite obvious he doesn't think it's in the best interests of the children to be with her.
He panders to the family at every turn.
He gave Alex an SUV during the first season, Katherine got a saddle.
To a teen in this messed-up family that rather sends the message that the more you mess up the better your gift will be.

    What a show.
I missed that epi, but I saw a special about this family on TLC. It must be the same family, since there aren't many with 3 girls who are deaf and blind. The special on TLC has been on about 3 times over this past year. I think they did an update too. If you check TLC, I bet they will run it again.

It was really a blessing to watch these parents. The dad is their step dad. The mother met and married him after the triplets were born. What an awesome guy.

I'm really done with the Dr. Phil family. I remember when they first came on the show. I said to myself then, they were not going to be good candidates. Guess what? They weren't. I think it's ironic that WITH help, they turned out so horrible. I can't imagine it would have been any worse if he had not intervened.

I do remember Dr. Phil, almost begging Alex to consider adoption while she was pregnant. She just would not do it. They all seem to be much worse as people than they were then. Alex just doesn't seem to have a heart or soul. She sides with a violent man over her baby's safety? She is dangerous for those kids. I hope the new one is taken away too. She and her sister seem to be too far gone to come back into reality and do much with their lives.

Thats the family, Debb, yes, the dad is their step-dad and the update was that they lost their "interveners" from Canada (as I guess Canada has an amazing program that trains people to be interveners and work with the deaf and blind and due to Canada not allowing them to cross the border any longer into the USA for work; the family has lost them). The girls have regressed allot. Dr. Phil and his staff have worked endlessly to help this Mom out and he has come through for them. He will have a specialist from NJ move to TX to work with the girls for one solid year WHILE training people in the area to take over for the NJ specialist when the year is up. It was one moving show.

Ya, well I am sooooo done with Alex and Katherine ... those daughters seem sooooo ungreatful for all the Dr. Phil has done for them ... all their LIES one after another ... the drug use, the arrests, etc etc ... HEY DR. PHIL, I am sooooo sure there are many more families in this country that could use YOUR HELP and APPRECIATE IT.

GREAT NEWS! Now that's the kind of family that Dr. Phil needs to be helping, not those spoiled, selfish, people who appreciate nothing.

My thoughts and prayers to that family. I'm sure there are many jewels in their crowns awaiting them. They really need the help now. As those girls get to be adult size, the parents are not going to be able to handle them as they were as toddlers.

I saw the special (not Dr. Phil) about the triplets and their family too. What an inspiration. The love, care, and dedication of those parents is phenomenal. I was in awe.

    ---------

I saw the final episode of the Dr. Phil family series, and two things stood out to me.

The mom had lost a lot of weight, was well toned, and had cosmetic surgery (by The Doctors(?). She looked absolutely fabulous. They also had a segment with a 16 yr old pregnant girl who wanted to place her baby for adoption against her mom's and grandmother's wishes. Dr. Phil asked for Alex's view having been in a similar situation, and she said her mother had wanted her to consider adoption when she was pregnant the first time. Of course, now, they couldn't imagine not having the child in their lives and don't regret keeping him, but looking back, Alex and her mom think adoption might have been the best choice for their family and the child.

    Re: Dr. Phil

I find this show hard to watch at the best of times because I think all Phil does is dispense hokey, down home sayings and gives very little practical help, but yesterdays show was even mroe difficult to watch than usual.
The first part of the show featured a mother of six, including adopted Russian twins. One of the twins was, by her account, a handful. We got to see her attempts at discipline and it was horrific to me.
She sat the boy on the bathroom counter and poured hot sauce into his mouth when he was caught lying to her.
She then made him strip down and take a cold shower, that was her husband's idea because that's how they build discipline in the military.
I had to turn it off halfway through. I have no idea if the shilc is still in the home, but if he is, after seeing that I'd have to question why.
    Terrible.
