I, too, have watched this since the beginning. And I'm going to try to stick it out - even though Pratt is gone and the "heart" of the er has left - IMHO. Remember what a jerk he was when he first got there? Why oh why couldn't they have just written him out by having him take the other job?

About the girl that Australian guy slept with last season. If you're referring to Neela, she's not a student. She's a doctor. And she's not black, she's actually part Indian. Just wanted to clarify. And I will laugh my butt off if she comes to him at some point and tells him she's pregnant. Hee-hee. Boy, Neela really gets around, doesn't she? Let's see....Michael, Ray, Gates, and now Australian guy. Has there been anyone else? Not that I care, but whatever happened to Sam's kid?

Actually the Australian doc did sleep with a black woman who was a student - I think it was in his first few episodes on the show. I don't think I saw her in this episode, but she certainly could come back to haunt him! Re. the PP comment about one of his "conquests" getting pregnant, my first thought was what if it is Neela that turns up pregnant!!! That would be a twist for her!

Count me in with the bawl-ers during this episode. I was crying terribly, and I also started all over when Bettina got the ring. I am very sad that they killed him off. I don't think I cried quite as much as I did when Dr. Greene died, but it was close!

I wonder how she is supposedly affording it now...she doesn't still work for that guy, does she? That seems like a story that was never really finished - or maybe I just don't remember the finish... Sam and Gates are a couple of characters that I have just never developed an affinity for.

I've watched ER from the start and am happy this is its last year. I wasn't one of the ones crying when Pratt died simply because ER has had so many exits and deaths that I don't find it nearly as sad it was say when Lucy or Greene died.

I think the boarding school Sam's kid is in is one for "problem" children...more like juvie than a regular school...lots of structure and punishments...he was pleading with her not to leave him there the last time we saw him, but he was so out of her control she felt she had to. Odd that we never see any reference to her even visiting him. I agree, not clear who is paying...maybe her old rich employer...why did she leave that job? I forget...
I think Sam's spawn (of the devil, as many referred to him) and Gate's Sarah would be an interesting combo--too bad we aren't likely to have them get married in time to have that happen!
It was actually Frank's stoic reactions that got me sniffling...when he went ahead to call the elevator for Pratt's gurney it was like he was saluting at a funeral...and his expression when everyone else was laughing it up at the bar later. And of course the ring scene got me even though I'd read about it here first. I have to say, if I'd been Bettina, the way Morris phrased it I would have thought at first that HE was proposing to me! First he pops out a ring, then he babbles about how he doesn't know how to say this, and there's never a good time so he's just going to go ahead and say it as she needs to know it....

Glad I wasn't alone! So I guess they wrote it that way on purpose. Of course since I'd read here that he was giving her Pratt's ring I wasn't fooled, but if I hadn't known that...

Yeah I didn't really at this episode either. This particular cast just doesn't hold my attention the way others have. I care about all of them to a certain extent but really I only care about Luka, Abby, and Neela (and I've got some issues w/ her)

It's nice though that some of the nurses who were around in the very beginning are still there. I hope they have a little moment to shine as the show winds down. I'm anxious/curious to see how they pay tribute to the past and still do this season's cast justice.

I agree, I only watch here and there now. Last time I cried was when Carol went to see Doug.. that was about it for me... every other season has been blah.

Maybe the network realized that I was not the only one turned off by that awful kid of Sam's - ick - a criminal in the making, just like his dad. Remember he hid some human fingers in the break room fridge or something? It's my understanding the state decided to send him to that school.

Before the end of the final season, I would like to have them bring back some of the third-string players they used to have in years past. it would be a nice tribute to them. There was a very impressive older black doctor who was a new baby specialist or something. And how about some of the nurses you don't see anymore? And how about that impressive black lady who was married to a construction work who died of AIDs or something. She was a physician's assistant or something; I can't remember her name. There were some good actors over the years.
