The number 47

If this has been discussed to death here somewhere, please stop me... But I am just putting all this stuff together and wanted to bring this up...

We all saw the 47 on the doors in the dream... But I was watching the season 2 finale today and Sloane told Jack that the Rimbaldi machine called "Il Dire" (The Telling) had 47 pieces... I thought that was a significant clue... But then I checked a little further and realized that Syd's image appeared in the Rimbaldi manuscript on page 47... Marshall was taken captive and held in Room 47, Even the very first episode... Marshall was giving the op-tech briefing to Dixon and Sydney and the lipstick camera held 42 exposures but he was trying to get it up to 47, because it was a prime number... There's actually a bunch of other references throughout the series...

It's probably just J.J.'s lucky number or something... Does anyone know what the significance is??

actually the interest in this number pre-dates the show... So I think it's just some sort of inside joke...
