I was interested in starting the day with Deacon ....

I thought it was a good show and I ever so rarely watch.!

I guess I need more than just something/somebody at whom to look.

A lifetime away as far as I'm concerned.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

*blinks* I never thought the day would come. Never thought she'd voluntarily retire. Shocked! That said, I'm thrilled! She drives me absolutely nuts!

Really. Why wait? The article I read said there will be a year's worth of specials devoted to lauding her career in journalism. Heaven help us. Now I really think they should pack it in for The View. No Babs, no Twit, no Joy. If she and Bill decide to keep it going, they really need to revamp the whole thing.

    Re: The View

    Is a year too long?
    I can't decide.

I think ABC wants to milk her retirement for all its worth. Every time there's another one of her specials it will be mentioned for weeks in advance on The View. ABC does this kind of crossover all the time. I love Jimmy Kimmel but he really does (have to) do a lot of "advertising" for ABC. Half his guests are from other ABC shows.

I think a year probably is too long but Barbara is an historic figure for women in the news field. She broke a lot of new ground for herself and for all women who wanted to be reporters/journalists. I'm not against her being honored for that.

I wouldn't be so adamant about her role re women newscasters/reporters if I hadn't just seen a documentary about how women journalists who wanted to report on WW2 were treated by the US government and by male reporters. Really nasty stuff. The women who did break the barriers in journalism like Barbara went through a lot that we can't even imagine to open the field of reporting to women.

Barbara retiring in 2014 is kind of a moot point, since the show's probably ending then too.

As much as I hate to admit, the old broad is a legend.....and not just in her own mind. Orion Nebula, that was a really good post. I've always believed in giving credit where credit is due...and BW is due a lot of credit in her field. She will be remembered and talked about for many years to come.

Now, all she has to do is refrain from "waking up dead" before she retires.
