I really don't understand on what basis Rosie would be fired. When you fire someone on national TV, you had better have a good reason or you will look bad, and I just don't see one in this case. Even if ABC had a desire to see her leave early, I'm sure it was a mutual decision since she obviously did not want to come back. Fired...no.

I don't think she was fired but I seriously doubt she was encouraged to stay and probably mentioned that if she WANTED to leave early they would have no problem.

I know it has been mentioned here but if someone is a ratings cow like it is thought to be Rosie was for the view I don't see ABC not meeting any contract outline she would want I think they let her spin it the way she wanted " we couldn't come to an agreement" (ala Star Jones) but in reality if they had wanted her to stay they would have made it happen.

Regardless, if you like Rosie or not. She is interesting, entertaining and controversial. Within 10 minutes the view has become the biggest borefest on tv.

Time for the show to fold.

    Re: The View

I will agree she is controversial but I find nothing interesting or entertaining about her. In movies she seems to be able to only play the new york accented side kick. In other roles she is horrible and I have never found her all that funny in her stand up routines. Just my opinion but I enjoyed the view before she came and will probably go back to watching it regularly now that she is gone.

I don't know why they need to replace ROSIE why not just get a good moderator why does it have to be someone like her?

    YAWN!!!!!

Today's View was the most boring I've seen in a while. I LOVE Whoopi and even she had nothing to contribute.

I figured BW would say what she said and same with EH. But geez, after the explaining was over, it was all I could do to stay awake and the whole topic of BW asking about porn was just so weird. Any of the other 3 women could have made that a funny segment, but with BW as moderator, it just was weird and uncomfortable. I don't imagine BW watching porn at all.

I think I'm done with the view for a while. Unless they get someone on there that will be interesting. But today was a yawnfest.

Lets not forget that Rosie strated the Trump battle also. She didnt like his helping out a beauty pageant contestant ( no matter what his motives were he was still trying to help) and she didnt like it when Trump fought back.

    Re: The View

It was a pathetic show today. I never thought I'd see the day when Whoopi couldn't make something better, but today was the day. Somebody should just flush the toilet, and be done with it.

Regardless if the show was "good" for 9 years previous to Rosie, you don't move backward to "the old days". Progress is about moving forward. Rosie will be a tough number to follow. We've been spoiled to expect interesting topics and discussions...this show is in major trouble.

    Re: The View

If the View is to continue then they will have to find away to keep the show fresh and interesting to watch. Regardless of how one feels about Rosie, reverting back the the pre-Rosie format will indeed kill this show. I said it at the beginning of last season and I'll say it again, time to pull the plug ABC.

So how did they explain it away???? I wasn't able to pop in my meeting room and watch today.

Bandy, I agree. I don't know that they're looking to replace Rosie with another comedian, necessarily, but I think that would be a big mistake. Rosie and Star both need to be replaced with serious "journalistic" types in order for this show to regain any integrity and be able to discuss Hot Topics with any semblance of depth and neutrality.

    Re: The View

Barbara said that after their was a 'contretemps' on the air last week Rosie had decided she didn't want to return to complete the final three weeks of her contract.
She's been emailing Rosie over the weekend and she considers Rosie a good friend and has affection for her (I'm obviously paraphrasing here).
Elisabeth also claimed to have been in contact with Rosie over the weekend.
On her last Jahero blog entry Rosie said she hadn't spoken to Elisabeth on the phone, Kelli had, and she had no plans to speak to her but that they had emailed each other once.
That situation might have changed over the weekend since the last webcam blog entry.
Elisabeth claimed they were working on 'forgiveness'.
They spoke about all the past co-hosts and mentioned that they had all gone on the have successful careers.
Joy said she is very fond of all the people who have left.

Barabara did mention more than once during Hot Topics that the Iraq war stirred up strong emotions in people.
I got the impression that is off the agenda, unless there is a major development, for a while.

That's about all I can recall.
    It was pretty dull.
Oh, Barbara did reiterate that Rosie was not fired.
Not when her reps and ABC couldn't agree on terms for a contract extension and not after the on-air row.
I would think they would have more sense than to fire her for that row as Elisabeth played an equal part and she's still sitting at the table.
If I was Rosie and they fired me citing that row as the reason, but did not fire Elisabeth they'd be paying me rather handsome compensation for that choice.

ETA. Couple more things I forgot, Babs said she was grateful to Rosie for her contribution to the show.
Rosie's been removed from the opening credits, which I expected, but they also swapped the mugs back to the red ones that don't have their pictures on them.
Babs also said Rosie is welcome back on the show.
