ABC brings back Robin Leach for "Life of Luxury"
THE ABC TELEVISION NETWORK PREPARES TO GIVE VIEWERS A "LIFE OF LUXURY"
THE MASTER OF CELEBRITY - ROBIN LEACH - RETURNS TO PRIMETIME TO HOST ONE-HOUR SPECIAL TO AIR IN 2003-04 SEASON
The ABC Television Network has begun production on an original, one-hour special to air in the 2003-04 season that will take viewers behind some of the most expensive closed doors in the world - "Life of Luxury," hosted by pioneering reporter of celebrity style and lavish living, Robin Leach ("Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous"). The show is a fun, hip look inside the lives of the super rich and elite, but it's not just about the bling bling. The show also explores the stories behind the wealth, from the hard work it took to acquire it, to the philanthropic ways people donate their millions.
Serving as executive producer is Andy Friendly (former president of programming & production, Kingworld.) His professional relationship with Leach began in 1981 when Friendly originated "Entertainment Tonight," the show which made Robin Leach a household name. Krysia Plonka (ABC's "InStyle" specials) serves as co-executive producer.
Says Leach, "Ten years ago I thought I'd seen everything when it came to the biggest yachts, the most luxurious private jets, the ultimate in mega-mansions and the largest jewels in the world. But today it's all back -- bigger and better than ever before. Time to open the private doors once again and showcase the very best the world has to offer."
"We wanted a primetime show that could really take viewers inside the world of the ultra wealthy, as they live right now in 2003," says Andrea Wong, senior vice president, alternative series and specials for ABC. "No one can get the access that Robin can, he's not only trusted by his elite subjects, but the audience trusts him to show the elements of that lifestyle they'd never get to see anywhere else."
Segments will include a look into the never-before-seen high roller suites in Caesar's Palace Villas in Las Vegas, an intimate tour, given by Virgin Group billionaire Richard Branson, of his privately owned Caribbean Island, Necker, which costs up to $36,000 per day to rent and boasts a staff of 31, a heli-pad and a calypso band as part of the price; plus rides with rap mogul Master P in his Gucci helicopter and Louis Vuitton Ferrari. Viewers will also see the opulence of $40 million dollar homes and meet the world's richest teenagers. And they will also learn how the wealthy deal with the stress of spending all that money via luxurious spas, elite concierge services, and private social and country clubs.
Says Friendly, "We're setting our sites higher than ever before. We're going to show viewers the way it REALLY is at the very highest level of fame and fortune. This show will not be your typical look at American wealth. We will be circling the globe to show viewers the lives of stars, royalty and the uber-rich. It's Caribbean Islands, European castles and vacation spots in the South Pacific."
"Life of Luxury" is from Andy Friendly Productions. The deal with the ABC Television Network and Robin Leach was brokered by Christopher Nassif of Diverse Talent Group along with David Nochimson of Ziffren, Brittenham.
