This is Bette Davis' estate in Cape Elizabeth Maine. My mom saw her once at a country club near her home. She was all dressed up, but had loafers on. 😀

    woodiedog, absolutely beyond SPECTACULAR.

Are you from Maine? My parents have a home on Drakes Island!!! I EVERYTHING about Maine!!!

Yes, BD has a lot of New England ties. She was born in MA (Lowell) but her dad was living in Maine getting a law degree. Then years later the parents divorced and BD's mom, who was a
photographer moved BD and her Sis to NYC but they kept their New England ties and traveled there often.

    Hi momrek

I'm not from Maine. My parents lived in Portland in the 40s and had friends in Cape Elizabeth.
Maine is amazing, I agree with you. Where is drakes island?
I love visiting Ogunquit and Kennebunkport.

I didn't know BD was born in Lowell, cool!

    Here you go, woodiedog, https://visitmaine.com/things-to-do/...-island-beach/

Its an Island off of Wells which is between Ogunquit and Kennebunk.

And yes we LOVE all those beautiful little towns, Ogunquit, Kennebunk, the Port and on and on!!!

Drakes Island is just homes!!! And ONE AMAZING BEACH!!!

No stores, nothing other than homes. So we love exploring off the Island.

Here's a good New Yorker article on the series.

I agree, except that I would like to see more of the horrific "Mommy Dearest' side of Joan's personality --- because I suspect that is probably a truer depiction of who Joan Crawford really was.

Her twin daughters denied any abuse and said Christina had her own view of reality.

That is true, but her son, Christopher, backs up Christina, along with others. When Bette Davis' daughter wrote her book on her mother, Bette was alive and could respond to the allegations.

Re: Feud: Bette & Joan on FX

I think it's quite possible that all four children could be telling the truth. There was a seven year age gap between the time she adopted Christina and the time she adopted the twins. There was also a lot that happened in her career which had a tremendous impact on her point of view in that time. Christina was adopted shortly after her career was falling apart and she was dubbed box office poison. She was probably feeling out of control in a lot of aspects of her life, thought motherhood would gain her something - whether that was love or regaining popularity - and it didn't. By the time she adopted the twins, her career had stabilized a bit, as had her personal life. So it's possible that she was abusive and controlling towards her oldest two kids, and mellowed by the time they were there. I've heard of other large families where some kids are abused and others escape the wrath.
