FOX to premiere "The Next Great Champ" on 09/07 (updated)

"THE NEXT GREAT CHAMP" – HEADLINED BY OSCAR DE LA HOYA – WILL PREMIERE SEPT. 10 ON FOX

Winner Gets Professional Contract and WBO Title Fight; Special Preview Trailer Will Air Aug. 12 During CELEBRITY BOXING 2 New Friday Lineup Includes TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS BEHAVIOR and WORLD'S CRAZIEST VIDEOS, Also Premiering Sept. 10 on FOX

Twelve aspiring boxers from across the country will lay it all on the line – both in and out of the boxing ring – when the unscripted series THE NEXT GREAT CHAMP makes its series premiere Friday, Sept. 10 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The eventual winner will receive a professional contract with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions and a title fight within the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

A special preview trailer of THE NEXT GREAT CHAMP will air during the encore broadcast of CELEBRITY BOXING 2 Thursday, Aug. 12 (8:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

In THE NEXT GREAT CHAMP, eight-time World Champion Oscar De La Hoya and television powerhouse Endemol USA have joined forces for a show that will turn young, raw boxers into top prizefighters. The hopefuls will push themselves to the limit as they slug it out to win a boxing contract and a title fight.

De La Hoya won his first belt in a WBO fight and is currently the WBO Middleweight Champion. "I'm very excited about the 12 fighters who punched their way onto THE NEXT GREAT CHAMP competition," said De La Hoya. "At the end of our series, one of these 12 will earn the title of 'The Next Great Champ.' He will then get to experience the thrill of a live fight against a WBO opponent."

Each of the 12 fighters will be joined on his journey by someone from his personal life … a wife, girlfriend or family member. That personal relationship will add tension, drama and a first-hand opportunity for viewers to see pugilism through the eyes of a non-boxer.

The fighters will prepare under the guidance of legendary trainers Lou Duva, who has trained a long list of champions such as three-time Heavyweight Champion Evander Holyfield, and Tommy Brooks, who is one of boxing's leading trainers and has worked with former Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson. Along the way, De La Hoya will be a mentor, friend and motivator.

Over the course of the series, only those who have what it takes will advance from challenge to challenge, round to round, and fight to fight. The stakes to be the last man standing are high as there can be only one winner – THE NEXT GREAT CHAMP.

THE NEXT GREAT CHAMP is produced by Endemol USA, a leading producer of television programming specializing in reality and non-scripted genres for network and cable television, in association with Golden Boy Promotions. THE NEXT GREAT CHAMP is executive-produced by Paul Buccieri, Joe Livecchi, Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer. David Goldberg is President of Endemol USA.

Golden Boy Promotions is entering its third year and is America's most innovative and fastest-growing boxing company. With eight-time World Champion Oscar De La Hoya at the helm, the Los Angeles-based company will promote over 40 shows in 2004, airing on major networks such as HBO PPV, HBO LATINO, ESPN and TELEFUTURA.

FOX's new Friday night will also include:

TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS BEHAVIOR, which will premiere Friday, Sept. 10 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT), reveals the amazing things that happen when people hit the "record" button on their video cameras and capture some of the most outrageous, shocking and genuinely unbelievable moments for posterity. Fox Sports Net's Lisa Dergan is the host.

Also premiering Friday, Sept. 10 will be WORLD'S CRAZIEST VIDEOS (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT), hosted by comedian Brian Unger, where the funny flubs and blunders of TV shows, news broadcasts and other crazy outtakes from around the world make their way onto U.S. television.

TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS BEHAVIOR is produced by Nash Entertainment. Bruce Nash and Robyn Nash serve as executive producers. WORLD'S CRAZIEST VIDEOS is produced by Brad Lachman Productions. Brad Lachman is the executive producer.

The Next Great Champ actually looks like it might be pretty good. No one is going to want to take a beating especially with a loved one there to witness so I imagine these guys will at least come to the ring to fight in an attempt to get a title match.

By the way, the premiere has been moved to 9/7, coincidentally (not) the same day as the court case to decide whether it can air or not.

I Think Oscar de la Hoya is a hottie. He and Roy Jones are the reason I became intersted in boxing again, especially when the heavyweight division became such a laughing stock. I think watching these guys go through the trials and turmoil of trying to achieve their dream will be gut wrenching when they fail.
