Music History
I don't know if anyone is at all interested in reading what was happening on the charts in the past, & I don't know how many of you were aware, but Google has put up the entire history of Billboard Magazine dating all the way back to Jan. 2, 1947, for reading online. It is entirely free & extremely, (at least to me) interesting to see what was going on at any given time.
Here is a link. Just find the issue you want & click read this magazine.
Billboard - Google Books
For instance...did you know that on May 20th 1972 the following songs hit the Top 40 for the first time.
Someday Never Comes - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Old Man - Neil Young
The Theme From The Godfather - Andy Williams.
Now, those songs by themselves aren't that interesting, but what makes it compelling is that those were the very last Top 40 hits for each of those artists, & they were the only new songs to hit the Top 40 that particular week. What are the odds of that happening?
