I'm going to have to say now. There is just so much new stuff coming out, so many more options for musicians to get their music heard.

I agree about the latter part of the 60's & the 1st half of the 70's.
The Beatles, Stones, & the Who at their peak. The Doors, CCR, David Bowie, Led Zepplin. Carly Simon & James Taylor & Dylan for those who wanted music with a little deeper thought to it. And last but certainly not least, the tail end of the Elvis years, when a ticket to see him in Vegas was gold.
I'm sure I left a lot out, but you get the picture.
This is one of the reasons I love Life on Mars. The music!

Best music was the mid-70s, definitely. But not necessarily the whole decade - my tastes changed a lot during that time. But if I had to choose a decade, it would be the 70s.

I'm the same age as most of you..graduated in 1980. Sure there was some good music but honestly after hearing say Stairway to Heaven for the 1000th time it gets a little old. KWIM?

I have almost totally quit listening to Led Zepplin because of them being so overplayed. I graduated the same year as you and that was a great year too. Lot of new bands that I remember from that year (they may have been around before, but they had hits in 1980) were The Cars, The Police and Tom PEtty.

I have the best memories of the music from the 70s, but dance music from the 90s was a whole lot of fun too!!

Overall, I'd say the '60s, but I can't believe no one mentioned the mid-'90s yet - Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden - all groundbreaking acts putting out amazing music. I would include Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, and Scott Weiland (one of my personal all-time favourite singers) as four of the most influential and talented vocalists to come along since...well, I can't even think of any other male singers who even come close to them in the last couple of decades or more.
