I remember you mentioning your Paul Young crush, LG and perfectly understandable it is too.
I can hardly believe I'm going to admit this, but I also prefer his version of 'Wherever I Lay My Hat'.

I guess to counter this we should also have a 'Remakes that were worse than the original' thread.

    ETA, Worse Than The Original

ETA. I also prefer the Echo and the Bunnymen version of People Are Strange.

    I can't believe I forgot these two:

Gary Jules: Mad World (love, love, love it)

Robyn Hitchcock: Vegetable Man. But only just - the original's pretty good too

Prince's version of "Kiss" was far superior to Tom Jones.

Joe Cocker's Cry Me A River was better than Julie London.

Broadway, Prince's version of Kiss was the original. Prince wrote it. I do like Tom Jones' hammy version, but that was several years after Prince's release.

    Re: Better than the original

sorry to double post, but I just remembered that Paul Young's Everytime You Go Away was also a remake because Darryl Hall had recorded it (he wrote it). It blows in comparison to Paul Young.

    Re: Better than the original

If you haven't heard remake of the AC DC song You Shook Me All Night Long that Big & Rich has on their new album, I suggest you search it out. Talk about a radical departure, you're either going to like it a lot or shake your head & wonder "what the hell." That's why I'm putting this post in the Best & Worst threads at the same time. I hope the mods don't delete one of them, cause this really is a fence sitter.

That may be the worst song ever written. No one can make me like it. Even as much as I like Carrie it still sucked the night she sang it. I think the guy that wrote it was trippin when he came up with that cake out in the rain stuff.
