Looks like SiriusXM may be heading for bankruptcy.

I hope it doesn't mean the end of the service. I also hope it doesn't mean they will raise my rates drastically. I am already a bit annoyed that they are going to start charging for existing subscribers to listen online, even for the lower quality stream.

It sounds like part of the problem is their higher cost deals like the ones with the NFL and Howard Stern. I don't even listen to that stuff so if they have to jack up prices, I am hoping they put the high cost stuff in a premium bucket that people can pay a little extra for.

I read a financial article listing them as one of the top 10 companies that will for sure fold in the coming year. Chrysler was another.

One thing that will probably to the demise of Sirius is Internet radio that lets you choose from thousands of stations from around the world. Amazon.com: Aluratek AIRMM01 Internet Radio Alarm Clock with built-in WiFi (Black): ElectronicsThese devices don't require you to be near a computer, but pick up as many stations as you can get on your PC.
I have found the Truth and it doesn't make sense.

Blockbuster and Krispy Kreme were on that list too.

I had XM and loved it, but then we moved to an area with fabulous radio stations and needed to cut back on expenses, so let the XM radio go. I miss it, but not that much.

Thanks! I couldn't remember all the names on it, I wasn't really surprised by any of them though.

In hard economic times luxury items are the first to be cut. Starbucks, eating out, video rentals, pay-for-radio... will all go out the window and out of the wallet. We cut back on everything when gas prices got really high and just never got back into spending like we were before. Once living frugally? It's not too hard to stay that way.

My husband preferred XM but he cut it out in favor of feeding his gourmet coffee beans habit lol.

    Re: Sirius satellite radio

I figured Blockbuster would be one of those things that people would do as it's not all that expensive and it's cheaper than a movie out. That one actually surprised me.
However it was explained to me that companies like Blockbuster and Krispy
Kreme's problems came from their expansion and not from all from the economy. The economy hurt, but they borrowed too much too quickly to expand and now are facing problems in a weak economy.

How does Sirius differ from XM? I am only familiar with XM as I still get it as part of my satellite tv package, but only through the tv.

The company is now called SIRIUS/XM. They merged back in July.

I would absolutely hate to lose my XM. I love it.

I think my hubby would lose his mind if they cut his Sirius. I would miss it, I suppose, but I'm not nearly as invested as he is. And he has already paid for a lifetime subscription.
