Wow, you guys are good. So many songs and artists I'd forgotten all about! So many songs and artists I've never even heard! The way this is going, I'm going to have to make ten CD's! I can't believe I forgot all about Wham. Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go has always been one of my guilty pleasures.

In addition to the compilation CD's, we'll also have a karaoke machine (well, technically it's a Playstation with karaoke DVD's) loaded with 80's music. I suspect that will be the main attraction of the night. Can't wait to scare people away with my renditions of 80's classics.

libra, hop on a place across the pond a.s.a.p and you should be right in time!

I only have one hand free so I'm going ot type some of my favorite bands from the 80's but not the songs. I'll try not to duplicate any that have already been mentioned:

Violent Femmes (listened to them every day on the way to school my junior and senior year), Social Distortion, The Jam, The Clash, Psychedelic Furs, Yazz, English Beat, When in Rome, Tears for Fears, Soft Cell, The Romones, The Alarm, The Untouchables, Selecter, The Style Council, Bananarama

I should add DEVO and the B-52's as well

    Clash - "Rock The Casbah"
    Erasure - "Oh Lamour"
Berlin - "Take My Breath Away"
    Thompson Twins "Hold Me Now"
Bow Wow - "I Want Candy"
    Falco - "Rock Me Amadeus"
Dead or Alive - "You Spin Me Right Round Baby"
    Gary Numan - "Cars"
    A-ha - "Take On Me"
Talking Heads - "Road to Nowhere"
Josie Cotton "Johnny Are You Queer" **Totally one hit, and I LOVE it!!

    Just some of my favorites.

Oh Mav, how could I have forgotten Thomspon Twins and Talking Heads.

Thompson Twins was my very first concert ever. Saw them at Irvine Meadows on April 14, 1984. hold me now, oooooooh hold my heart....

I'd suggest Haircut 100 and the Human Leage and Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star". Also, for fun, ya gotta have some Weird Al.

Actually that was a band called Boys Don't Cry. Men Without Hats are better known for Safety Dance and Pop Goes the World, both worthy of being on your list!

    I'd suggest some others:

Love and Rockets - Ball of Confusion, So Alive

Tones on Tail - Go! (Club Mix)

Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi is Dead, Ziggy Stardust

Sisters of Mercy - Lucretia My Reflection, Vision Thing, More, This Corrosion

The Mission (Mission U.K. in the U.S.) - Butterfly on a Wheel

Front 242 - Welcome to Paradise, Headhunter

Joy Division - She's Lost Control, Transmission, Love Will Tear Us Apart

Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen in Love

Siouxie & the Banshees - Dear Prudence, Cities in Dust, Spellbound

Heaven 17 - Let Me Go

Yazoo (Yaz in the U.S.) - Don't Go, Situation

Sorry if most of those are a little on the darkside, but that was the 80's for me.

Thanks for clearing that up! Much of the time I know the song but not the group or vice versa. Thank goodness for the internet now to double check. I didn't have that luxury during my 80's days. I have to say, I've never heard of any of those groups on your list.

I've noticed that there are quite a few 80's bands that I never heard of in some of the posts here. I pretty much listened to mostly mainstream pop but I'm sure if I heard some of the ones I'm not familiar with I'd go "oh yeah, I remember that!".

I've enjoyed this trip down memory lane! Geek the girl, I wish I could be at that party, it sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun!

Will everyone be dressing 80's too? Leg warmers, big hair (boys and girls lol!), Members Only jackets, cordoroy (sp?) pants, designer jeans, mini skirts, lots of blush, eyeliner, and lipstick, punk rock hairdo's. Ahh, good times

Don't forget to throw in the theme from Miami Vice and Beverly Hills Cop, as well as Ghostbusters and other popular songtracks from movies and tv shows during that time period.

In my humble opinion, Yaz - Upstairs At Eric's and Love and Rockets - Love and Rockets were two of the best albums of the 80's.
