Oh my goodness. The song "Lollipop" by. Lil Wayne drives me CRAZY. I think the real reason why I hate it so much is because the tune gets stuck in my head all the freaking time!
"She wakes up to the cold that she created.
There's a winter in her mind, though outside the snow has faded
    and the sun is bright
    but she's bundled up tight"

Right now the songs that drive me insane are all of the ones on the hip hop stations. (there are only aboout two that I can tolerate- Jesse McCartneys song and Rhiannas song) The rest I feel like I am listening to porn. I don't know the name of it, but it talks about "a kodak moment, they took it to the bed, then they took it to the floor, chilled for a second and did it some more..." I HATE THAT SONG!

I am with you on this. Sometimes I feel like I'm just "getting old", but I miss hearing more socially conscious and political hip hop music. I think it is out there, but it is not getting played. My oldest son enjoys hip hop and I feel like I can't even listen to some of the stuff on the Sirius stations because the versions they tend to play are just too explicit!! Why does it ALWAYS have to be about sex and money with "mainstream" hip hop these days!?

That new song by Julianne Hough (DWTS), something about having this song in my head all day... Yeah, no kidding. It took me over 2 days to get that stupid song out of my head.

I have no idea! I don't think that it's just that we are getting old, but that everything is allowed these days. I find these songs embarassing to listen to. I told my daughter once that I didn't like the song they were playing and she asked why. I told her it was about a stripper pole dancing. She said "We don't even listen to the words!" I think most of the time they don't really understand what the meaning of the song is. I think it is always about sex and I tell my kids I feel the need to take a shower after listening to it. (Not because of that, but because I feel scummy even listening to it)

Oh my gosh, I LOVE that song. I thought it was completely silly the first time I heard it, but after listening a couple of times I realized it starts out with a simple childhood "i can..." statement and ends up with crazy power-tripping "i can..." statements. I personally think it is a striking commentary on how power can lead to corruption...then again, maybe I am the crazy one!!

Well, I'm glad someone else is with me on this one. I do wonder how much they "get" from some of this music, but I also don't want to underestimate how much kids are picking up on these days! I swear I have heard some songs lately that could make me blush - and that is not an easy thing to do!!
