One of the great traditional ones is Oh, Holy Night with Mahalia Jackson. It's wonderful.
Out of the newer ones I love Happy Xmas (War is over) with John Lennon, for some reasons it's the one song that gives me the most Christmas feelings.
I'll be back with the worst and maybe some more best!
My Christmas Card To You -The Partridge Family
Last Christmas - Wham!
I Believe In Father Christmas - Emerson, Lake & Palmer
A Wonderful Christmas Time - Paul McCartney
Step Into Christmas - Elton John
Merry Christmas Darling - The Carpenters
Christmas Rappin' - Kurtis Blow
12 Redneck Days Of Christmas - Jeff Foxworthy
Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer - Elmo & Patsy
All I Want for Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey
Santa Baby - Madonna
Aimee Mann's got a new Christmas album out. Obviously, it's amazing, but then again, I'm a big fan of hers, so I would say that, wouldn't I? :lol In any case, it is a good mix of Christmas classics ("The Christmas Song" - I've always loved that one - as well as "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", "White Christmas" and a bunch of others) and original Aimee Mann songs. The newly-written songs as especially good. If you're an Aimee Mann fan, this is a must, but I'd recommend it to anyone who's looking for something a little less traditional.
Oh, and the album is called One More Drifter in the Snow.
Every Christmas Eve, for breakfast, we always listen to Phil Spector's Christmas album. A vinyl record my mum has had since she was young. It really is Christmas for me, since I only hear the entire album once a year, with a Christmas wish from Phil Spector himself. Last year my parents' record player was broken so we did not get to hear it, but they waid they would buy a new for this year. I just love that record. Christmas songs, the Phil Spector way.
One of my high school friends was really into the sixties and the mod culture and she was in awe when she learned that we had that album, as a vinyl record nonetheless.
I just noticed that it is out on CD, should I buy it. I know that if I did buy it I would probably never listen to it, I don't want to ruin the magic feel it has. Oh, what to do?
My favorite Christmas Carol
O Holy Night
Worst, Jessica Simpson- Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. Why did she do that to this song?
Best: O Holy Night by Mariah Carey or LeAnn Rimes. It always makes me cry.
I really like Christmas Canon by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and another called Mary Did You Know? (I think that's the name) and have heard several artists singing it. I'd like to get that one.
Growing up, Gene Autry's Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer was a favorite as well as Burl Ives Frosty the Snowman. I love all the old classics.
I have the Wilson sisters (Carnie and Wendy) Christmas cd and it's pretty good. I love Kenny G's holiday music too.
I could do without Madonna's cover of Santa Baby.
And I'm with ClosetNerd, I like Robert Downey Jr.'s cover of River.
I agree with many of the choices posted here. Oh, and need to add, I love most versions of We Three Kings and Do You Hear What I Hear? I think Vanessa Williams covers Do You Hear What I Hear? and as usual she does a great job.
One thing that really bugs me right now is when I go to do my Curves workout and they've got Christmas music playing. Silent Night and Away in a Manger to a dance beat is just so wrong.
Josh Groban singing Oh! Holy Night is my all time favorite.
I am so tired of hearing
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas.
Any song from Rudolph is my favorite! Along with O Holy Night, Silver Bells, White Christmas, and Merry Christmas, Darling.
Worst: Last Christmas, and Little Drummer Boy. I hate the last one for personal reasons, as I had to sing it one year in my advance choir back in high school, and it is an insanely high alto part, which isnt good for a sick alto.
