Re: Best and Worst Holiday Songs

I have a favorite Christmas album, which is sung by Martina McBride. It's her White Christmas album, which includes:

    1. Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow
    2. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
    3. Silver Bells
    4. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
    5. Do You What I Hear
    6. I'll Be Home For Christmas
    7. Winter Wonderland
    8. O Come All Ye Faithful
    9. Away In a Manger
    10. Baby, It's Cold Outside
    11. Jingle Bells
    12. White Christmas
    13. Silent Night
    14. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On an Open Fire)
    15. What Child Is This
    16. O Holy Night

I enjoy them all, so can't pick out just one favorite. But her powerful voice just does such justice to all of them. Unlike so many singers who release Christmas albums, Martina doesn't do all kinds of vocal acrobatics with her voice, she just sings as she always does, and with her voice.. that's saying a lot. These are simple songs, and she sings like an angel, and the album just leaves me singing along with it and reminds me of Christmases as a child and growing up.
I live in my own world. But it's ok, they know me there.
Kid Nation... a sad day for society when the exploitation of children becomes acceptable entertainment for television viewers.

I don't really care for that Paul McCartney song, "Simply have a wonderful Christmas Time."

I like the Mariah Carey Xmas song, "All I want for Christmas is You."

    The worst...

    1. Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer
    2. Dogs barking Jingle Bells
    3. Simply Have a wonderful Christmas Time
    4. The Twelve Days Of Christmas

    The best....
    1. Burl Ives (all his classics)
    2. Do They Know it's Christmas (Band Aid)
    3. All I Want for Christmas is You (Mariah)
    4. Let it Snow (Jessica Simpson) (not a fan of her, but loved the video of this one)
    5. Snoopy's Christmas (loved this one when I was growing up)
    6. Last Christmas (Wham)
    7. The Heat Miser Song (He's Mr. White Christmas...he's Mr. Snow)

Best: "All I Want for Christmas Is You" as sung by Olivia Olson, the girl from Love Actually. IMO blows Mariah Carey out of the water and she was only 11ish when it was recorded. I also secretly like the My Chemical Romance version even though it is very screamy.

Worst: "Yule Shoot Your Eye Out" by Fall Out Boy, about how even though it's Christmas he still hates his ex. It's sort of immature and whiny but my real issue with the song is the last line of the chorus: "Merry Christmas, I could care less." It should be "I couldn't care less." Get your grammar right, buddy.
"It is my belief, however, that the truth is generally preferable to lies..."
