As for Holiday songs - while I do like many of them, mostly older versions - I'm sure none of you will be surprised when I tell you that the only Holiday CDs I listen are Dean Martin "making spirits bright" and "Christmas with the Rat Pack" | ||

| Re: Best and Worst Holiday Songs Kenny G's Christmas albums are absolutely amazing. I don't normally like that kind of music at all, but during Christmas I listen to his music constantly. My favorite Christmas songs: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (Lonestar's version) Sleigh Ride My Only Wish This Year (Britney Spears..... yeah I know )Where Are You Christmas? (Faith Hill) The Christmas Song (Nat King Cole) Anything by Glen Campbell, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, etc My least favorite Christmas songs: Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree Mostly everything from the "A Very Special Christmas" albums I'll Be Home for Christmas

, yeah, he'd try to chew it for sure. Now, if I could get the 3 of them to bark carols, I think I could market them as a live dog band. ![]()

![]() My dad spent some time in Germany after WWII and he always would sing Christmas carols to me in German. One of my favorite memories. One of the things I'm teaching at the museum during our WW One classes is the Christmas Truce of 1914 when the German's started singing Christmas Carols and the British responded and soon the Germans had put up a tree with candles at the top of their trenches and before long, both sides met in the middle in no man's land and traded, coffee, whiskey and cigerettes and other items and then played a game of soccer. After Christmas, they climbed back in the trenches and commenced to trying to kill each other again. But I think of those soldiers in the dark and cold and mud of the trenches trying to make the day somewhat special and started it out by singing carols to each other.

| Re: Best and Worst Holiday Songs I think one of the best versions of Silent Night I have ever heard (surprise surprise) is Dean Martin on his making spirits bright CD. With that beautiful voice you can just picture him singing it in an old church. First time I heard it it sent chills down my spine. His Jingle bells on that same CD is very upbeat bouncy and just full of it. At the end of jingle bells he ad libs : Come on dancer, prancer get out of here. I must edit to add: That Robert Goulet, rest his soul also, did a wonderful "This Christmas I spend with You", as well as doing White Christmas with the original missing first verse as written by Irving Berlin, but not sung by Bing Crosby who didn't like the first verse. White Christmas - Irving Berlin (I've put the rarely sung verse in bold) The sun is shining The grass is green The orange and palm trees sway. I've never seen such a day In Beverly Hills LA. But it's December the 24th And I am longing to be up North. I'm dreaming of a white Christmas Just like the ones I used to know. Where the treetops glisten, And children listen To hear sleigh bells in the snow. I'm dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write. May your days be merry and bright. And may all your Christmases be white. |

| Re: Best and Worst Holiday Songs I actually kind of like "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer". The one holiday song that I can't stand though is "The Christmas Shoes". Horrible! |

| Re: Best and Worst Holiday Songs I am in love with Mahalia Jackson's version of "Oh, Holy Night". The way she soars when she sings "Oh, night... DIVINE!" is breathtaking. I used to love it in the song when the artist would get very powerful on the "Fall on your knees line" but she just trumps them all. She messes up some of the words (yonders break? ) but the clarity and power more than makes up for that.

| Re: Best and Worst Holiday Songs I like the Mariah Carey (I believe it's her) version of the song that goes something like this ... "I don't want a lot for Christmas, there is just one thing I need.... All I want for Christmas is you". That song gets played on repeat a lot for me. |
