    Let's prove John wrong, redux

Hi. Okay, so this one is going to be much more subjective. Say you're St. Peter, and you hold the keys to the gates of heaven. You have in front of you Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, and Eddie Van Halen. Your directive is that only one guitarist is allowed into heaven. Who gets past those pearly gates?

Yes, there are probably more talented guitarists in the world. I'm not worrying about them, because I want to know the commercial answer.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall while y'all are having your little "who's the best" discussions.

I think the commercial answer will be Jimi Hendrox. However, if it were up to me, Clapton would get the green light.

Well, Clapton has a tendency to sound like Stevie Winwood (and not in a good way either) when he teams up with babyface, Santana has collaborated with Michelle Branch once again, and Eddie, he's just Eddie. I'll go with Hendrix on the sole basis that he never sold out.

Gotta be Jimi Hendrix, for the same reason Texi said. Extra points for the whole National Anthem thing.

Santana gets my vote not only 'cause he's a hugely talented musician but also 'cause he knows how to regulate his drug use so he doesn't OD and vanish.

What good is a hugely talented guitarist like Hendrix if he doesn't stick around??
