This does not suprise me at all. I always thought there was something shady about her claim that after announcing she was pregnant, she had "secretly" married this guy a year earlier. Riiiight.

Brandy's Ex Says They Were Never Married
Robert Smith says the two feigned marriage to maintain her image

In 2002, when Brandy announced she was pregnant, she also said that she had secretly married the baby's father, producer Robert Smith, a year earlier. Now, two years after daughter Sy'rai was born, and a year after the couple announced their split, Smith says they were never really married. According to MTV News, Smith gave interviews this week to New York radio stations WBLS and WQHT, saying that he and Brandy feigned marriage in order to maintain the ''Moesha'' star's squeaky-clean image. The couple even starred in a limited-run reality show for MTV chronicling the pregnancy and childbirth.

In fact, Smith said, he had been dating another woman, a film producer, at the time he impregnated Brandy. He said he and that woman have reunited, and that she is now expecting his child.

Smith's revelation came only a month after the 24-year-old singer released her new album, ''Afrodisiac.'' In a statement, Brandy (full name: Brandy Norwood) said she was ''hurt and shocked'' by Smith's disclosures but did not deny them. She said that, rather than a legal marriage, she and Smith shared a ''spiritual union and a true commitment to each other.'' Plus, she said, ''We still share a common bond through our daughter, Sy'rai,'' She complained, ''He is not thinking about her, me, or what we had together. He is trying to destroy my reputation while using me and our daughter to get publicity and radio airplay for his artists. I am stunned that he is being so dirty about it.''

Smith responded with a statement of his own, insisting that he was a responsible father who had recently been granted joint custody of Sy'rai. ''When breaking off relationships it's always difficult, and I prefer not to air our dirty laundry through the media. I was just stating the TRUTH,'' he said. ''Brandy and I have many things to work out over a long period of time, [and] will hopefully [head] in a more positive direction.''

Is it odd? Yes. But, since I try not to care about entertainer's personal lives until they've become Jack-o or Whitney crazy, I can't say that I think of her as any less. I don't know why the hell they had a whole TV special about it, though - talk about your pointless waste of air.

So many celebs are having babies out of wedlock...some adopting, some from artificial methods, some just shaggin'...there is no point in lying especially following a discloser about a breakdown. Bring it all out in the open while you are exorcising your demons. People who like her music will probably still enjoy hearing it. Moesha is over so the squeaky clean image can go with her.

Brandy's engaged. No, seriously.

The R&B singer, who was accused last week of faking her marriage to producer Robert Smith, is engaged to NBA star Quentin Richardson, per People magazine.

The Los Angeles Clippers guard popped the question to the former Moesha star Tuesday at a private reception at L.A.'s Century Club attended by both of their families and close friends.

Helping convince the 25-year-old entertainer, born Brandy Norwood, was an 11 1/2-carat diamond ring valued at $1 million from designer Jason Arasheben, who reportedly finished the gem only 30 minutes before the proposal.

It will be the first marriage for both, we think.

Speaking out on Wendy Williams' syndicated radio show last Monday, Smith labeled his so-called marriage to Brandy a hoax meant to maintain the singer-actress' wholesome image when she become pregnant with his child.

At the time of her pregnancy, Brandy announced that she and Smith had secretly tied the knot a year earlier, a decision purportedly made at the urging of Brandy's mother-manager, Sonia Norwood, who didn't want her daughter tagged as an unwed mother.

The singer didn't deny the bogus marriage report but said she was "hurt and shocked" by Smith's revelations. While not a legal union, she insisted they had "spiritual union and a true commitment to each other."

The couple, who are parents to two-year-old Sy'rai, called it quits last year.

Brandy, who's currently promoting her fourth album, Afrodisiac, reportedly took up with 24-year-old Richardson following her split with Smith.

I didn't really care if she got married or not. But since she's out in the public eye, it wasn't the bestest of ideas to lie about marriage.

I guess it just goes to show you that some people still have their heads stuck in the 20's. There is absolutely nothing wrong with an adult having a child out of wedlock. The child is no better or less than anyone who was concieved and/or born to a marriage.

He may as well wear it like a badge of honor. However this reflects poolr on her for being with a guy like this and lying about a nonexistant circumstance. She didn't have to say she was married to him when she wasn't, no one certainly asked actually.

And, i've been a fan of this girl for almost 10 yrs and no where in those years did she present her self as racist. if that's going to be put out there, id like to see that evidence.
