Me and a Gun is so powerful. Seriously, I have to listen to it sparingly. Girl kicks ass too. Leather too.

i know what you mean, "me and a gun" just gives me chills. i really have to be in a certain mood to be able to listen to it. also, "i can't see ny"... my god! the cd does not do this justice. let me tell you, even though i am a HUGE toriphile, i am NOT one of those who goes to concerts and cries and just feel all "blessed" or whatever like the people at the beatles or elvis or something. but, when tori did "ny" in chicago a few months ago, it was so incredibly powerful. the lighting.... her voice... was just absolutely haunting. and, i actually did cry. my husband couldn't believe it. i really didn't care for the song that much after hearing it on the cd, but i have a great new appreciation for it now.
"I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes. I am out of control, and at times hard to handle, but if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best .. "

I Can't See NY is probably a song that's feh on CD, but brilliant live.

I'm glad you're not one that thinks her words are scripture or whatever, either. She's just majorly kickass.

One of the best songs Tupac ever wrote. The man had a huge heart.

~~Keep Ya Head Up by Tupac Shakur~~

Little something for my god son Elija and a little girl named Koreem

Some say tha Blacker tha berry
    Tha sweeter tha juice
I say, tha darker tha flesh and tha deeper tha roots
I give a hollar to my sisters on welfare
Tupac cares, but don't nobody else care
I know they like ta beat ya down a lot
And when ya come around tha block brothers clown a lot
But please don't cry, dry ya eyes
    Never let up
Forgive but don't forget girl keep ya head up
And when he tells you you ain't nothin
    Don't believe him
And if he can't learn ta love ya, you should leave him
Cuz sister you don't need him
I ain't tryin ta gash up, but I just callem how I see 'em
Ya know what makes me unhappy
    When brothers make babies
And leave a young mother ta be a pappy
And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman
And our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
    Why we rape our women
Do we hate our women ?
I think it's time ta kill for our women
    Time ta heal our women
    Be real to our women
    And if we don't
We'll have a race of babies
That hate tha ladies that make tha babies
And since a man can't make one
He has no right ta tell a woman when and where ta create one
So will tha real men get up
I know your fed up ladies
    But keep ya head up

I remember Marvin Gay, usta sing ta me
He had me feelin like black was tha thing ta be
And suddenly tha ghetto didn't seem so tuff
I thought we had it rough, we always had enough
I often huffed and puffed about my curfew and broke tha rules
Ran with tha local crew and had a smoke or two
And realize momma really paid tha price
She nearly gave her life, ta raise me right
And all I had ta give her was my pipe dreams
Of how i'd rock tha mic and make it to tha big screen
I'm tryin ta make a dollar out of fifteen cents
It's hard ta be legit and still pay tha rent
And in tha end it seems i'm headin for tha penn
I try and find my friends, but they're blowin in tha wind
Last night my buddy lost his whole family
It's gonna take tha man in me
    Ta conquer this insanity
It seems tha rain will never let up
I try ta Keep My Head Up and still keep from getting wet up
You know it's funny when it rains it pours
They got money for wars, but can't feed tha poor
Sad there ain't no hope for tha youth and tha truth is
There ain't no hope for tha future
And then they wonder why we crazy
I blame my mother, for turning my brother into a crack baby
We ain't meant ta survive, cause it's a setup
And even though ya fed up
Ya got ta Keep Ya Head Up

    And uhh
To all the ladies havin babies on they own
I know it's kinda rough and you're feelin all alone
Daddy's long gone and he left you by ya lonesome
Thank the Lord for my kids, even if nobody else want em
Cause I think we can make it, in fact, I'm sure
And if you fall, stand tall and comeback for more
Cause ain't nuttin worse than when your son
wants to kno why his daddy don't love him no mo'
You can't complain you was dealt this
hell of a hand without a man, feelin helpless
Because there's too many things for you to deal with
Dying inside, but outside you're looking fearless
While tears, is rollin down your cheeks
Ya steady hopin things don't all down this week
Cause if it did, you couldn't take it, and don't blame me
I was given this world I didn't make it
And now my son's getten older and older and cold
From havin the world on his shoulders
While the rich kids is drivin Benz
I'm still tryin to hold on to my survivin friends
And it's crazy, it seems it'll never let up, but
please... you got to keep your head up

I don't think I've ever heard a song by Tupac before. Thanks for posting that one Jodaar. It seemed like a really heartfelt song.

I'm a big fan of Jewel, and this would have to be one of my most favourite songs. I love to sing along with it.

    Sometimes It Be That Way
    by Jewel

Night with its shattered teeth attempts to speak
My pen is present but courage left via the sink
And I'm sorry I snuck up on you from behind
Sorry not all my love letters did rhyme
And I'm sorry that Jesus died for my sins
And I swear to God it won't happen again
And I'm sorry if it was my swerve that tempted you to sway
Oh well, sometimes it be that way
And Romeo was a very nice man
He said, "Jewel, I don't think you quite understand"
And I'm sorry if you had to explain it like this
Sorry I was a point you were destined to miss
And I'm sorry I spoke to you irreverently
Down in the hollow by the old olive tree
And I'm sorry if my heart breaking ruined your day
Oh well, sometimes it be that way

I said, "Oh well, I got nothing left to sell"
This love was a bell that rang unheard in the air
I was bound to find out that you didn't care
Oh well, sometimes it be that way

And Aphrodite with her neon lamp
Kissed Neptune, they put her face on a stamp
And I'm sorry I used it to mail a letter to you
Sorry I'm glue and the rest bounces off of you
And I'm sorry not even this jet's metal wings
Could get across these simple things
And I'm sorry if I ever sang your name in vain
Oh well, sometimes it be that way

Now flame licks the air with its silver tongue
Night has many hands but I have just one
And I'm sorry I walked in on you unexpectedly
I'm sorry I never served you chamomile tea
    And I'm sorry I didn't always have a match
That could start a fire big enough for your heart to catch
And I'm sorry if it was my heart breaking that ruined your day
Oh well, sometimes it be that way
Oh well, sometimes it be that way

I just love this. There's a lot of music I'd probably never hear because I don't care for the band's style of music. But anyone can appreciate the written word. There's some really great stuff here so far.

    No kidding.
AWESOME thread! LOVE the Tupac song, he was great. (did you pick up the new album? very good )

Since I just arrived, I am going to put a couple up. I have so many in my collection, but am going to go for the obscure, rather than main stream.

SPECIAL TO ME (Phoenix Audition Song)

    (Lyrics & Music Paul Williams)

Caught up in your wheelin' dealin' you've got no time left for simple feelin'
I thought I knew you but I didn't know you at all
Trapped inside your world of worry you miss so much when you always hurry
Well slow down baby you'll only get hurt if you fall

(CH)Well you told me one time that you'd be somebody
That you weren't workin' just to survive
But you're workin' so hard that you don't even know you're alive
Workin' so hard to be somebody special not working just to survive
Well you're special to me babe but what I don't see babe is
Where you go once you arrive
Where we go once we arrive

Damn all evil that takes possession until your pipe dreams become obsessions
They scare me baby and we should have nothing to fear
I'm no child but I can't help wonder it seems like some kind of spell you're under
You're listnin' baby but somehow you don't really hear

    (repeat CH)

I had a hard time picking which Jimmy Buffet to post...

    (Jimmy Buffett)

He went to Paris looking for answers
To questions that bothered him so
He was impressive, young and aggressive
Saving the world on his own.
    But the warm Summer breezes
    The French wines and cheeses
    Put his ambition at bay
    And Summers and Winters
    Scattered like splinters
And four or five years slipped away.

Then he went to England, played the piano
And married an actress named Kim
They had a fine life, she was a good wife
Bore him a young son named Jim.
And all of the answers and all of the questions
He locked in his attic one day
'Cause he liked the quiet clean country living
And twenty more years slipped away.

Well the war took his baby, the bombs killed his lady
And left him with only on eye
His body was battered, his world was shattered
And all he could do was just cry.
While the tears were falling, he was recalling
    The answers he never found
So he hopped on a freighter, skidded the ocean
And left England without a sound.

Now he lives in the islands, fishes the pilin's
And drinks his green label each day
He's writing his memoirs and losing his hearing
But he don't care what most people say.
Through eighty-six years of perpetual motion
If he likes you he'll smile then he'll say
Jimmy, some of it's magic, some of it's tragic
But I had a good life all the way.

And he went to Paris looking for answers
To questions that bother him so.

    Marilyn Manson

yep, I like this guys work, believe it or not.. but I won't post it.

    Rufus Wainwright -

I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
    It goes like this
    The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
    The baffled king composing Hallelujah

    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
    She tied you
    To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah

    Maybe I've been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
love is not a victory march
Its a cold and its a broken hallelujah

    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time you'd let me know
What's real and going on below
But now you never show it to me do you?
Remember when I moved in you?
The holy dark was moving too
And every breath we drew was hallelujah

    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah

    Maybe there's a God above
And all I ever learned from love
was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
Its not a cry you can hear at night
Its not somebody who's seen the light
Its a cold and its a broken hallelujah

    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah

and my list could go on and on and on....
