    99 Red Balloons.

And it had TWO FREAKING VERSIONS. I don't know which was worse, the English one or the German one. GAHHHHHHHH

Call me crazy, but I love the German version of that song. It's super-kitschy, and I love it! The English version is pretty bad, though.

I might be preaching to the choir here, but I hereby nominate Jessica Simpson's slaughter of "These Boots Are Made For Walking" as the worst song ever. Ew.

    Big word on that, geekthegirl.

Let's just say that life is so much better when you live it pretending that cover never existed.

My nomination for the worst song ever is "Lemon Tree" by Fool's Garden. GAAAH!! I hate this song with a firey passion.
If you really did love music, you wouldn't limit yourself to just one genre.

I agree with you per se: it is a pretty inane song but, see, to me "Lemon Tree" will always be synonymous with the summer of 1996, which was a great summer for me. That song was played EVERYWHERE that summer, and whenever I hear it now, ten years later (TEN years! I feel old ), I'm sixteen again, lounging by my friend's pool and sipping iced tea as "Lemon Tree" is played for the umpteenth time that day. Also, my youngest cousin, who was three at the time, loved that song and would dance and sing along to it. It was adorable, and the fact that he didn't know a word of English and had to make up his own words made it even more so.

Does anyone else have mixed feelings about a song they know they should hate just because you have great memories connected to the song? If so, what should we call this particular phenomenon? Reluctant musical nostalgia?

ETA: When "Lemon Tree" wasn't on the radio that summer, you could be 99% sure that the song played instead was "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something. There's a textbook example of a one-hit wonder if there ever was one. I still like that song, though.

I'd say anything by Massari. His voice is really bad, and all his songs sound the same.
"In spite of all the temptation you have endured, all the suffering, you remain pure of heart, just as pure as you were at the age of eleven, when you stared into a mirror that reflected your heart's desire, and it showed you only the way to thwart Lord Voldemort, and not immortality or riches."
