I just got two new CDs.

One is Plans by Death Cab for Cutie. I had actually never heard this group before, but I kept hearing about them and decided it was high time I saw what the fuss was about--I've got to keep up with these crazy college kids. As it turns out, I love it! Brilliant songwriting, production, and the lead singer has a lovely voice, imo. I'd definitely recommend it.

The other is This Station is Non-Operational, which is an anthology of the group At the Drive-In. It's the polar opposite of the other CD. This one's visceral, intense, loud . . . but the songs are filled with passion and I really dig it. ATDI was a great ensemble, but most likely an acquired taste.

(By the way, the lead singer and lead guitarist of ATDI are now in The Mars Volta. That's how I heard about 'em. If that means anything to you, well, I love you.)

I got the Rockstar Live at the Mayan CD.

Some people are scarily bad and can't even be helped by studio manipulations, but overall it is not horrible..

Still trying to find the soundtrack to Rent (the movie - have the broadway version) in a B&M store without having to order online.

Extraordinary Machine - Fiona Apple

If you are or were a Fiona fan,I recommend her latest highly. This disc has been on hold for 2 years because her record company said there are no singles on it. While I don't disagree with that,I do think this album should be experienced by people who love her voice and artistry. This is one of my all-time faves.
