I think the other single from that album was "Satch Boogie"

Definitely "Surfing the with Alien"...A classic guitar tune. Satriani's a guitar god.

I have to say I'm a big fan of most of Sammy Hagar's earlier (read: pre-Van Halen) work, that man knew how to play.

Yes John, but the difference between Satriani and Hagar is that Joe played "Surfing With The Alien" while Sammy thinks he actually HAS surfed with an alien.

OMG JOHN...I showed hubby this post and he was ! Too funny, I actually saw Satriani along with other guitar legends in a Hollywood Bowl concert 3 years ago...the G3. It was awesome hearing them live.

I love Satriani. I don't know what any of his songs are called, though.

Another group that ranks right up in this thread is Guns n Roses. Especially Sweet Child of Mine but most of what they've done is !

This isn't technically a riff, but I recently got the latest Godsmack cd, and I'm absolutely in love with the song "Vampires", which is entirely instrumental, but with some guy talking over parts of it. VERY good. The instrumental would have made a great song if they'd added words, but by itself is electrifying.

My wife practically writhes all the way to the floor when she listens to Godsmack, especially "Voodoo". Didn't realize they had a new album. I'll have to get it for her...then I'll slip into a white lab coat, grab a clipboard, and observe her reactions.

Now how is it possible that no one has listed any Stevie Ray Vaughn or Jimi Hendrix songs? Hmmmmm...very odd. JR, I loved your list man.
Im haunted a little this evening by feelings that have no vocabulary and events that should be explained in dimensions of lint rather than words.

Stevie Ray!!!! Oh, man, what an omission. "Crossfire" is a great example.

The fact that nobody put Hendrix is shameful.
