Re: I Used To Be Fat

    Aired July 22, 2013

Jorine - 18 - 5'3" weights in at 198.8 lbs. She wants to go to college and study fashion merchandising because she loves fashion and wants to lose weight so she can wear the clothes she loves.

Mother died when Jorine was 7 yrs old of cancer. Father couldn't or wouldn't take care of Jorine and her two older sisters, Sharline and Debbie. They spent 2 years in foster care until their Aunt Marguerite and Uncle Jean took them in. Their blood relationship was never made clear. The sisters spent 8 yrs at their aunt and uncles home until Debbie left 2 yrs ago and Sherline left 1 yr ago. Jorine started putting on weight at the end of 8th grade. She fights with her aunt. Her aunt doesn't like her. Jorine tends to hide in her room. She has her own frig up there her own food and supplies. It's as if there are two separate warring households in the home.

Yeah, Yari from Delray Florida is the trainer and she is giving Jorine 70 days to lose 60 lbs.

First workout Yari learns that Jorine ran cross country in high school and their longest practice run had been 8 miles so Yari makes Jorine run 8.5 miles on the treadmill. Jorine falls of the treadmill .... shades of Biggest Loser but yari makes her get back on and Jorine finally finishes it.

I do like that Yari is showing Jorine what kind of food to shop for and showing her how to cook up a salmon filet and portobello mushrooms using coconut oil.

    Day 56 - 2 week weight in - 185.8 - loses 13.0 lbs

Jorine is upset that she fell 1 pound short of her goal and cannot celebrate she has lost 13 lbs. Yari observes that Jorine gives up on herself and needs to believe in herself.

    Day 50 - 184.8 - loses 1 pound

There are only 49 days left and Jorine is upset - "life is always bad", "everyone else has everything" "I have nothing", is what Jorine tells Yari during a workout. Yari asks Jorine if it is OK if she sets her up with a therapist to discuss these issues. Jorine goes to therapy.

Later Yari sets up some workout sessions with Jorines sisters as they are her support system.

    Day 42 - weights in at 177.2 - loses 7.6 lbs

Day 19 - the sisters have lunch with their uncle and aunt at Stoneforge Grill. Jorine realizes (after therapy) that she cannot change her aunt only herself and how she reacts.

    Day 0 - weight in at 159.0 - lost 18.2 lbs.

Three months later Jorine is having dinner in NYC with a group of friends and her sisters. She has lost another 5 lbs and weighs in at 154.

Re: I Used To Be Fat

    Episode 9 - Rebecca - aired Jul 24, 2013 - Chicago, IL

Member of the National Honor Society, an overweight shy girl, wants to be a teacher, does not want to run away when things get tough. Stubborn like her father, bad eating habits like her father. Everyone calls them "The Bookends". Childhood nickname "Becca I Do Do". Feels parents spoiled her by letting her eat whatever she wanted.

Rich - dad uses food as stress relief, so does Rebecca
    Julia - mom
    Sarah - sister
    Trainer - Saran Dunmore

Wants to lose 60 lbs in 80 days or 5.4 lbs per week

    Day 80 - 1st weight in - 233.0 lbs at 5'3" - goal is 173 lbs

    Day 74 - 232.4 - lost .6 lbs - Saran is generous and calls it a pound

Mom said Rebecca is not used to eating breakfast and a snack then lunch and a snack then dinner.

Rebecca is thinking the workouts are too hard and that changing what she eats is too much to quick and that Saran needs to let her do it at her own pace and much slower.

Day 66 - Rebecca meets friends who are all overweight at the Burnt Toast and orders waffles and hash browns. Later that day she quits the workout and walks out, locks herself in a room and starts crying. Saran takes her home. Rebecca says she doesn't like it when people push her. I wonder how Rebecca thought this process would happen? Rebecca indicates she wants to quit the show. The dad says that Saran is verbally abusive to Rebecca. He says that Saran is working for Rebecca and that Saran treats Rebecca like a POS. He says that her voice is abusive. Saran leaves. Julia/mom talks to Rebecca and asks her what she wants and when Rebecca walks away she calls her on it. Rebecca calls Saran and asks her to come back.

Day 67 - Both Rebecca and her Dad apologize to Saran. Her dad even says that is how he reacts when someone pushes him and he knows it is not the best way to handle the situation.

    Day 42 - 204.0 - lost 28.4 lbs

Day 12 - you see that Rebecca and her dad have a really good relationship and they make dinner together. I do like that they do show the families and the individuals in this show make their meals.

    Day 0 - 179.6 - lost another 24.4 lbs for a total of 53.4 lbs

    3 months later - 172.0 - lost another 7.6 lbs for a total of 61.0 lbs

Re: I Used To Be Fat

    Episode 10 - Olivia - aired Jul 25, 2013

Olivia - 18 yrs old - Alvarito, TX
Patti - mom - suffers from depression - best friends with Olivia - home schooled children due to bullying
Justin - older brother - 23 - still lives at home
    Annie - trainer

Used to be very active. When she was 11 yrs old developed very painful tumors in her right leg. Has to be wheelchair bound for 8 months. Had to learn how to walk again. Was bullied when in the wheelchair. One girl flipped her wheelchair and laughed at her and called her a turtle and told her to get herself up. I can't believe how mean kids are to each other and I do believe that is learned at home. At that point I think her mom took her out of school and started home schooling Olivia. While Olivia does think of her mom as her best friend she is also concerned that her mom is too dependent on her and she wants to go to cosmetology school and start a career but is afraid to leave her mom by herself. Olivia feels that mentally she is still trapped in her wheelchair. She wants to lose weight and start school free of her "mental" wheelchair.

    Goal: 110 days - 90 lbs

To reach her goal to lose 90 lbs Olivia will have to lose an average of 6 lbs a week for 15 weeks.

    Day 110 - weight in: 310.4 lbs

1st workout - dehydrated ended up in ER.

Nutrition tip from Annie - all meals need a little bit of protein plus greens plus a little bit of carbs.

Day 102 - finally medically cleared to workout

Day 81 - 287.0 - lost 13.4 lbs in 4 weeks - at her height ( I think over 6 feet) and working out 4 hours a day and eating right Olivia should have dropped 20 to 30 lbs.

Day 7? - again Olivia is dizzy and light headed and has blurry vision - again she is checked out and no heart problems and can workout. Patti, Olivia's mom thinks Olivia is spending too much time in the gym and needs to be home with her.

    Day 60 - 286.6 - lost 10.4 lbs in last 3 weeks

Day 55 - something is holding Olivia back from maximizing her efforts. Annie, Olivia and Patti all go to a therapist.

Olivia reaches a turning point and learns to get rid of a lot of her negative energy

    Day 31 - 262.8 - lost 23.8 lbs in last 4 weeks

    Day 0 - 240.0 - lost 22.8 lbs in last 4 weeks for a total of 70.4 lbs

One month later - now weights in at 230.0 - has lost another 10 lbs

    Day 0 240.0 22.8 70.4

    1 months later - 230.0 - lost another 10 lbs for a total of 80 lbs

    1st 50 days/7 weeks - lost 23.8 lbs - an average of 3.4 lbs per week

    2nd 60 days/8 weeks - lost 46.6 lbs - an average of 5.8 lbs per week

Overall average weight loss was 4.69 lbs per week

After going to see a therapist around Day 55 it really seemed to help Olivia and her mom that she really got on track with her food and exercise program and was able to lose more during the second half of her weight loss program.
