This is a wonderful retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story from Maleficent's point of view. The special effects are A+ and the world created is the one everyone imagines is fairy. The three fairy godmothers are spot on. This movie is rated PG. Angelina Jolie was born to play she is perfect in the role. Overall I enjoyed this version of the Sleeping Beauty tale and all my sympathies were for Maleficent. I think parents and children will totally enjoy this film. Sharlto Copley who plays King Stefan is not as strong a character or presence as is Maleficent so while they are enemies there is a lack of tension between the two that if it had been there would have really been a benefit to this movie. While this is a beautifully crafted film and the world building, character design, and costumes are outstanding the story suffers a bit from the lack of tension between Maleficent and King Stefan and while you see Maleficent's inner struggle with her hatred, wanting revenge and her redemption the movie doesn't quite have the edge that would have made it perfection. Still a thumbs up.

I liked it a lot, too. Saw it with one granddaughter (18) last week, and may see it again tonight with her and her sister (26).
