In reference to your spoiler, when Joss Whedon wrote and produced the TV series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel and the movie, Firefly he doesn't do the Hollywood cliche of not having anyone die. People die in his films and they don't come back. It is that realism that really makes his stories stand out because it reflects what happens in the real world.

Not true in the case of Buffy herself...
Though we did get the fabulous Buffy musical episode after she came back from the dead, along with her rather delicious (to me, at least) dalliance with Spike.

I think some of Buffy's death scenes were done so on the assumption that the show was not going to be renewed so let's go out with a bang.
