I would love Viola Davis to win! She was so good, brought tears to my eyes. The movie was wonderful too. I haven't seen the other ones, but am thrilled for Gary Oldman, though he should have been nominated years ago.
And yes, Tin Tin was robbed! I was so surprised it wasn't nominated. Kung Fu Panda 2? Was it that good? Though Puss in Boots!!! Woo hoo!

The one thing I always do after the Oscar nominations come out is put pretty much all of the documentary selections in my Netflix queue, along with any other films I haven't seen or heard of. This year, that list included A Better Life, which I hadn't even heard of until Demián Bichir was nominated for Best Actor. I've watched the trailer and it looks really good!
I don't get the Jonah Hill nomination at all. I didn't see Moneyball but I have seen him in other things and, based on those, there is no way he was better in Moneyball than Albert Brooks was in Drive. Just no way.

In case anyone is interested, Newsweek did their annual roundtable discussion, this time with Viola Davis, George Clooney, Christopher Plummer, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton ahead of the Oscar nominations. Unfortunately, half of the people involved didn't get nominated, but it's still really fun. They have an edited transcript and about 10 videos. Really funny and some good insights about the business. Every year someone isn't nominated who should be or doesn't win who should. I still am upset that Gwyneth Paltrow beat out Cate Blanchett! And don't even get me started on Saving Private Ryan!!
Very pleased to see Paradise Lost 3 get a nom for documentary. It was a Fort friend from years ago who sent me a book about the West Memphis Three & the case instantly fascinated me. The documentaries are absolutely wrenching to watch & very graphic, but it's a story that needed to be told. I'm rooting for this film.
I'm thinking Glenn Close might beat Meryl out of this year's Best Actress award. She gives the performance of her lifetime in "Albert Nobbs," plus she falls into the same "It's About Time Now" category as Clooney.

The nominees luncheon was held Monday. They always do a class photo and then it gets posted online and, unless you can zoom, you can pick out anyone. Cheers to Viola Davis for learning a good lesson - wear a bright color (vs. black) and everyone can find you in the picture! Viola in bright pink and Berenice Bejo in purple are just about the only ones I can pick out in the small picture.

Meryl Streep looks fabulous. Whoever styled her for the luncheon should style her for the Oscars. She looked pretty and fresh and that dress is very flattering.
