Comic Books into Movies

[I started a new thread rather than tie up the Books into Movies thread so that SnowflakeGirl and I (and other comics fans) could get our geek on. Admins, if any of you would prefer this thread be moved or melded back into Books > Movies, please let me know. Thanks for your understanding.]

Yay, Phat!!! ALAN MOORE ROCKS!!!!! I love his work so much, however, that I am reticent to see on-screen translations. From Hell was such an excellent book, the film did not do justice to it at all. Similarly, I love Grant Morrison's The Invisibles but do not think that psychedelically baroque series could ever transition smoothly to an onscreen adaptation. I am, however, looking forward to Garth Ennis Preacher film that's currently in development. For some reason, I really think that could work.
I had looked forward to From Hell, too, and was vastly disappointed in what had been done to it. The atmosphere and period sets looked about right, but the casting was all wrong. While Depp gave it a valiant effort, it wasn't one of his stronger roles.

I haven't read The Invisibles, but I've heard such good things about it. Maybe I'll make it my next trade paperback when I go to the comics store. And if you think that's a hard one to work with, just think about Doom Patrol, sister. Where do you even begin?! (In a strange sort of way, Animal Man could work, though, if they stick with Morrison's run. Mirror Master, The Family Man, Morrison appearing as himself--great commercial potential. But I digress.)

I'm not sure, but I think the only indie comic to be mildly successful as a film is Ghost World. I loved GW. Didn't read the comic, but they maintained that sort of dadaist/fatalistic atmosphere found in indies.

Saw part of Crumb once while I was flipping around the satellite TV. I watched this comic artist who's like 70 years old ogling girls young enough to be his granddaughter and I was like, "Man, you are a sick bastid...and I love you for it!" Just kidding.

Preacher as a movie, huh? Here's my vote: Josh Lucas (guy from Sweet Home Alabama) as Jesse Custer--although Yahoo! Movies claims they've already cast the guy who plays Cyclops in X-Men as Rev. Jesse. Kate Hudson as Tulip, and Colin Farrell as Cassidy.
