Kidman Refuses To Pull Out Of Oscars

As the Oscars ceremony is scaled down and stars like Will Smith have pulled out of attending, nominated actress Nicole Kidman assures she'll be flying in for the show. The leggy beauty, nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in The Hours, is determined to attend the Hollywood ceremony on Sunday, despite the somber tone that the American-led war with Iraq has now set. Kidman's confirmation has silenced speculation in Hollywood circles that she had planned to stay away what is expected to be her winning night. The actress's publicist Catherine Olim says, "She's still planning on flying in with her family. Fingers crossed."

    Good for her!

I'm not sure I exactly understand people's reason for staying away. It doesn't seem disrespectful or frivilous to me. What happened to all the talk of "live your lives - don't let the terrorists win!" I mean supposedly, part of the reason we're fighting is to preserve our freedoms, and I think that includes our freedom to be entertained and criticize people's dresses!

For the love of God - give us something to watch for a few hours besides bombing and sand storms!!! It doesn't mean we don't care about the war or the people fighting in it.

Thank you for attending my small rant.

I'm so with you on this one MollyRose!

I think people may be worried of flying, or that something happens at the oscars

No offence, but who cares of Will Smith isn't going?
It's not like he's nominated this year.

If some of the actors are afaid of flying during these times, I can understand that. For those actors who think this would be an insensitive thing to do, I say get over it!! The show must go on!!

It's good for the public to get a break from all the war coverage. There are other ways these actors can show their support or non-support, imo.

I could care less who goes, and who doesn't go.

There are too many of these types of "pat me on the back because I'm so wonderful" shows imo anyway.

I don't watch any of them.

Yeah, I definitely can understand the fear of flying or fear of terrorist attack. It's just the thought that the show itself is inappropriate during war that I don't get.
