I saw "Bernie" the other day. Not sure if it's in wide release, but if you get the chance to see it, I'd recommend it. If not - for sure check it out when it hits Netflix. It stars Shirley McClain and Jack Black - who by the way, was fabulous. I'm not usually a big fan ("School of Rock" excepted), but this role was a bit of a departure for him, I think. He plays Bernie Tiede, a funeral director in the East Texas town of Carthage, who is well loved by all. He befriends the cantankerous (I'm being generous here) and wealthy widow Marjorie Nugent and....well, I can't say much more without giving it away..though since it's based on a true story, I guess I wouldn't be spoiling much at all. It's aptly described as a "dark comedy," and the true story aspect makes it all the more interesting IMO. The cast...which included some real East Texans who were around at the time of the actual murder (oops
), was very good. Matthew McConaughey plays the prosecutor - who has a bit of a tough time as Bernie is so loved by most of the townspeople. If you stay to watch the credits, you'll see pictures of the real Bernie and Margie, as well as a recent clip of Bernie.
