Thanks for the heads up! I went and listened to the segment. Nick is one of my favorites on the series.

I watch movies all the time and rarely report on them here as they're seldom remarkable or I have already read a review here. But I watched one today that really was scary, and I seldom watch horror flicks. It was The Conjuring with Vera Farmiga from Bates Motel. I was surfing for movies OnDemand and my new Comcast Xfinity X1 system has 'Rotten Tomatoes' ratings in the description for movies and this one had an 86%/82%, so I tried it out. Pretty damned scary! I don't believe in exorcisms and didn't have any interest in this film when it came out on Redbox several months ago. But I really like that the 'RT' rating lets me know when something is worth watching. It saves me from watching something that might sound interesting but turns out to be a waste of time.

I loved The Conjuring! Several jump-in-fright moments. And Vera was great, as usual. They're doing a sequel next year...

Went to see "The Chef" this morning. It's a Jon Favreau film, starring . . . Jon Favreau. It was a nice story, nothing spectacular, but a couple of great minor roles played by Dustin Hoffman and Robert Downey, Jr.

I too love The Conjuring. As a horror fan since the age of 3, The Conjuring is one of very few movies that have genuinely spooked me and I had to own it, managed to convince the owner of the only movie rental place left in town to sell me a copy at a good price.

Today I watched a movie titled After the Dark, about a professor in a boarding school in Jakarta, Indonesia giving an exercise to his students in their final day of class, about what they'd do in case of an apocalypse in order to survive and save the human race. It was pretty interesting to see how the students reacted and we got to see the actual scenarios, but I feel the final 10 minutes of the movie absolutely ruined it. But that's just my opinion, I still feel the exercises were interesting enough.

I don't know what made me decide to watch this, because it's about snowboarders, but what a fascinating look into that subculture and into someone who has a life-altering accident. Really well done.

Captain Phillips - Tom Hanks movie about a cargo ship that gets overrun by pirates off the Horn of Africa. Good movie. I liked that they gave some background about the pirates to make the point that they were pretty much pirates due to circumstance (more gray, less black and white). It was still a bit "Rah, rah America" by the end.

Red 2 - Action movie about "Retired Extremely Dangerous" operatives. Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, etc. Enjoyable action movie, but I thought it felt long by the end. I would have liked more of Helen Mirren and the Korean assassin working together, I liked the pairing.

Re: What Films Did You Watch Today?

I was watching movies on tv Sunday (mostly Syfy).

Predators came on first and I realized a short way into it that I had seen it before so I turned to another movie, Splice. Ironically it and Predators both had Adrien Brody in it. I don't care too much for Splice. It was one of those weird movies that you end up wanting to see the end of it just to see how it turns out even if you're divided about whether you like the movie or not. By the end, I decided that I didn't like Splice and wouldn't watch it again or recommend it to friends.

Next I watched The Invasion, with Nicole Kidman. I've seen so many zombie/infection movies and they all range from bad to worse. I guess I'm just over the whole genre.

Finally, I turned off the tv and went to organize my guest room, a chore I've been putting off too long anyway. Since there was nothing good on tv, I had no excuse to put it off any longer.

BTW, Predators was ok. I just didn't want to watch it again at the time because there were movies on other channels that I hadn't seen before. I didn't want to lump it in with the other movies because it was pretty decent. Not my favorite horror movie of all time but worth seeing at least once. I think my favorite in that series was Alien vs Predator. I'm a big fan of the Alien movies so having them with Predator was really cool!

Saw "Nebraska" last night. Wonderful movie with great casting. One thing I loved: one of the characters' girlfriend was overweight. There was no dialogue about it and it wasn't part of any plot device. This is something you rarely see in movies and it's so refreshing.

We saw Ride Along, cute and funny, if somewhat predictable, entertainment. No regrets.
