| Help--Need Movie Ending! I rented Casino Royale the other night, and the dvd was damaged near the end and would not play past the part where Bond has gotten (female lead whose name escapes me) out of the locked elevator underwater, and is attempting to revive her. I know the money will eventually end up in the right place and all, but what else happens? Is the woman in question actually dead?

| Re: Help--Need Movie Ending! Hi QB ![]() She is actually dead. I don't remember everything that happened, but essentially, M explained to him that the woman had had a lover/boyfriend who had been taken hostage by those people and she had to deliver the money for his safety. (I am assuming that it was the guy who gave her the love knot necklace). Bond, of course, ended up all cold and detached again and decided to remain an agent. It was kind of a weird ending, I thought...

| Re: Help--Need Movie Ending! I think it's supposed to be where he decides that romantic entanglements shouldn't involve his heart because he let his judgment slide with her. You think she betrayed him right up until the last scene when M explains that she was doing it to save him, and that she expected to be killed in the process. Bond realizes that he's not made for civilian life and is destined to be a cold hearted bastard without a family. I didn't understand why she seemed to kill herself, though. Or at least, she didn't try to get out, she went willingly. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? I hope it's okay to ask that here. ![]()

| Re: Help--Need Movie Ending! I thought it was because she had set Bond up, but in the process actually had fallen in love with him (apparently in addition to lover #2) and felt so remorseful that she wanted to kill herself. But maybe it was because the other lover was going to die too, since she's lost the money. Oh Hollywood!

| Re: Help--Need Movie Ending! I agree, queenb...she betrayed her lover (by falling for Bond), her country (by helping the baddies), and Bond. And was found out on all accounts by Bond. Also at the end, after Bond gets the explanation from M, he gets a call from the mysterious financier--the guy who set the war lord guys up with LeChiffre at the beginning. Bond is to meet him, but kind of ambushes him and shoots him in the leg. And that's where the movie ends, with Bond standing over that guy with a big ole gun. (<---clearly, I need to improve my knowledge base of weaponry)

| Re: Help--Need Movie Ending! Now I'm confused - I agree that she betrayed her old lover and her country, but that after she fell in love with Bond she was trying to save him by sacrificing herself. I thought she was redeemed by the end - she wasn't?

| Re: Help--Need Movie Ending! That's how I recall it. As for why she didn't seem to be trying to get out of the cage - I think she had realized and accepted there was no way out. Bond, of course, wouldn't accept that and kept trying.

| Re: Help--Need Movie Ending! It's been a while since I've seen it but I think my interpetation lies close to that of Queenb's. That she was disappointed with herself, that she had put so many people in danger for nothing. But now I'm confused again. Maybe I need to watch it again to clear things up. I do remember the last lines of the film though; "The name's Bond, James Bond" ![]() | |

| Re: Help--Need Movie Ending! I suppose it's a difference of opinion, really, and not confusion as to events. I didn't find her running off with the money from the bank to free her love-knot-jewelry-giving boyfriend (and all the while leaving her PDA behind to tip off Bond), then losing it in a house collapse all, only to willfully commit suicide that redeeming. I found that to be the coward's way out. In my mind, to truly redeem herself, she would have owned up to what she'd done and asked for help to rectify it. By turning away from rescue, she betrayed Bond beyond the theft of the money and the disclosure of the other man. She denied him a happy life and the illusion that he was really loved, which all adds up to betrayal for me.
