Gotcha. My reaction to M telling him she was trying to save him by giving up the money was a big fat LAME because she didn't even try to save herself at the end. I agree with you that if she had wanted to change the outcome, she could have. She had that big bad secret agent on her side; how could she have doubted him?
But I thought the movie was trying to make us feel like, "Awww, she wasn't so bad, she lubbed him enough to try to keep him from the big bad guys." She left her PDA so he could recover the money, not save her.
The only thing I know for sure is that I found the plot resolution very unsatisfying. I chalked it up to them trying to throw in too many twists in too few minutes of movie time just to have a shocking conclusion. I hate when a movie makes me feel stupid.
