We did go. She had read the book in school, and I had read it when my kids had to, so it wasn't a surprise for either of us. I think if you're going to take a young kid you should read the spoilers so you know what to expect. I thought it was well done. Took me a while to place the music teacher, so if that kind of thing drives you crazy - she's the girl in Elf that Will Farrell hooks up with. She was blonde in that movie and black hair in this one.

I remember reading the book once or twice as a kid but I don't remember all the fantasy elements. Yeah the end of the book is very bitter sweet and I don't know if I would take a very young kid but 8 or 9 would be OK. To me it was more of a coming of age book than a fantasy novel. Somewhat like the "Summer of My German Soldier".

The other mom and I were crying like crazy and our sons felt disappointed that it wasn't the movie they thought they were seeing. The characters were really well done, and the actors were great. But if I had known more about the movie, I wouldn't have taken my son. It probably would work better for a girl.

Gutmutter, I think it's OK for a 9 year old (after all, we survived some pretty sad movies as a kid - remember Old Yeller?) but LG, age 6 might be too young.

You are so right, only we took a 9, 10, 11, and 12 yr old girls and the youngest did not know what would happen and it was horrible, tears, serious crying. Especially since as you say she was absolutely expecting a narnia, magic land type movie. This taught me a lesson I have lived by thus far, read the book or see the movie first or at least know what will happen.I usually do this but didn't this time and the two older girls, cousins, had read the book.

I hate that the previews make it look like they will spend the movie in that magic world. Sadly you only get to really see that place in one scene.

Anyone going to see the Last Mimzy? Has anyone read the book? Any tips or spoilers you can give?

Re: Bridge to Terabithia

I watched this movie on DVD for the first time. I didn't see it in the theatre because of the trailers. Wasn't in the mood for a Narnia type movie when it was out. I LOVED THIS MOVIE, but I hated the ending. I smiled and laughed through the movie until I started to tear up, and then sob. Well told story, well acted. Just a joy.

Don't understand why they had to ruin it with the sappy ending. Would have been happy if he just took May Belle to the bridge and started walking across.

Still, if you haven't seen it, rent it.

Re: Bridge to Terabithia

I've now watched this twice on On Demand. Once by myself and tonight with my husband. I sobbed like a baby both times. I loved this movie. This has to go in my collection. Next up: Stardust and Golden Compass. I absolutely love these kinds of movies. Yes we only got to really see "Terabithia" in one scene but I still loved the story.

Re: Bridge to Terabithia

I took my almost 8 year old and 10 year old to Terabithia. GREAT movie, we loved it, and the bittersweet ending provided some great conversation between all three of us.

P.S. Mimzy is cute, not as good as Terabithia, but worth a rental.
