Glad so many people liked it though. A+++++

These were my two dominant impressions upon seeing this film.

Although good for what it was, for me, it was not anywhere near the ‘masterpiece’ of filmmaking it was for everyone else.

As I discussed the movie with my friend I used the words ‘one-note samba’. There was no depth to the message. Yes, we all know Franco was a despot. Yes, his minions were guilty of unwarranted brutality. Yes, the people suffered mightily. But, unlike the plot in this film, the world is never just black of white. When you remove all humanity from your antagonist you dehumanize them, and in doing so, make them unbelievable.

I was impressed with the imagery, set design, makeup, acting and emotion of the film. However, a movie with such a one-sided plot line is less a ‘story’ and more a political diatribe.

I give it one and one

Re: Pan's Labyrinth

Bump. The movie comes out tomorrow and I saw it opening day when it came out in December and saw it three times again in the theatre. The best film I've ever seen. Hauntingly beautiful movie. Ivana Baquero is brilliant. Guillermo did a wonderful job of telling this story through amazing visuals. Just a brilliant film.
