| Now, if a movie about a young child and a dysfunctional family are required to be up for an academy award, it should be this one - not Little Miss Sunshine. This movie, although all in Spanish with subtitles, was one of the best I've seen this year or last. Very moving, very involving, and very well acted. The period it takes place - Franco's fascist rule in Spain - was probably pretty accurate in the look of Spain during that time. The movie was engrossing and moving, and stayed with me for quite awhile. |

| It was very good, but I think I would've liked it much more had the focus been solely on Ophelia's fantasy world. It sort of seems like whenever a movie has a not-so-realistic storyline, a realistic subplot must be added to try to balance things out and make things more believable. It doesn't really work for me. I did go into PL expecting a fantasy-world-gone-wrong type of thing, though.

| Just saw this last night and cannot stop thinking about it. Visually haunting and emotionally disturbing, yet so beautiful. Ivana Baquero - what a find! She was incredible. I think the early previews focused so much on the fantasy aspect of the movie and not enough on the "reality" aspect. I was glad I read more about the plot before I saw it, so I knew that Ofelia's world was only about 1/3 - 1/4 of the movie. The contrast of the brutal world of post- Civil War Spain with the world of the labyrinth was really effective. ![]() It's definitely not for kids or for the squeamish, but I highly recommend it.

| Ok, I have a 12 year old and 14 year old begging to see this. They are both pretty mature. Both love fantasy type things. But...gore bothers the 12 year old. I guess I need to go see this first to see if this is even close to something they should go see.

| I finally saw this last night. I thought it was good, but not as good as it's been hyped to be. The cinematography and especially the sound were amazing. I didn't like that it was sort of a one note movie, my emotions remained in the same state through the whole film. Dark. But worth seeing on the big screen. |

| nlmcp - They would have to be extremely mature to handle this film. Like I said above, only about 1/4 of the movie is about the fantasy world of the labyrinth. The rest of the movie focuses on the real and very brutal world of post-Civil War Spain. Ofelia's step-father is a captain in the fascist military and the things he does had most of the people in the audience wincing (audibly), including me. It's not just gore in this case - it's brutality. That's not to say that I didn't think it was an incredible movie, but it's not for everyone. I'd suggest finding a few reviews or plot summaries or going to see if on your own first. The kids might not realize what they're getting into. ![]()

| I saw this today and have to agree with everyone on how amazing the movie was. I also would not recommend this movie to children under the age of 16, especially after the reactions of some children who were in the movie theatre where I watched the movie. Totally amazing movie.

| I would definitely suggest that you see the film yourself first and then decide whether or not you think it's appropriate for them to see it. I can't stress enough that this is a beautiful but very dark film, with an ending that can be seen 2 different ways, one extremely nasty that would probably distress the 12 year old, since they are so close in age. Also, the violence in the film is shocking in the way it's depicted because it's very...casual. In most films there's usually a build up to the violence. In this film there is no build-up, and extremely violent acts are committed like they are everyday occurences. |
