My colleague took her 7 year old son to watch this movie and in his words: "It was the best movie I ever saw".

I was really looking forward to the movie since I loved the books so much (BTW, Eldest is after Eragon). The movie was ok but I wish it had stuck closer to the book. They left out a lot of stuff that was building up to the second book so now I don't know what the sequel will be like. Probably nothing like the book. Plus, Eragon in the movie is nothing like he's described in the book.

Nevertheless, I saw the movie three times at the theater so obviously I wasn't too disappointed by it. It's still better than a lot of other movies I saw last year. I'll be waiting in line when Eldest comes out, too!

I don't think that ther will be a sequel...it came out on Christmas day, and I saw it Monday-in a second run theater.

It wasn't a bad movie at all. The problem with it was that it had nothing at al to do with the book- they twisted up the story line, squished it too tightly into it's timeframe, and never really made clear who any of the characters were.

It's fine if you haven't read the books, but seriously, if you haven't, don't judge the book by it's movie, they are 2 totally seperate stories.

If you have read the book, well, I'm not going to say anything horrible, but I'd seriously consider going to a cheap movie theater to see it, so that you don't feel that you're out $10 if you don't like the movie.

I'm sure there will be a sequel. It ended with elf chick saying that they'd meet again. They won't leave it like that. Besides, movies like this make sequels all the time. Even when the first movie is a total bomb.

Uh, no offense meant, no.

It ended with less than a month in the theaters, they don't make high-budget movies if they aren't going to pay for themselves.

Don't over seas sales count and when the movies goes to rentals? Those are all money makers.

Re: Eragon

My kid wanted to see this (I was curious too) so we rented it. I was already expecting nothing special because of all the things I've read. But wow. It was bad. We were laughing at the beginning when the fantastic Jeremy Irons (narrating) spoke the name of the world/land/place. AlegASIA? I didn't see the Star Wars connections too much (but I was hoping that Aria (Arwen) turned out to be his sister). The battle at the Vardan place (which was a lot like Tolkien's Rivendell) was also a lot like the battle of Helm's Deep. Despite all of the similarities to other fantasy works, it was still an awkward movie. The dialogue between Eragon and Saphira was clumsy and childish. The places and people didn't flow well, it was all choppy and just didn't seem to fit.
