Casino Royale - New James Bond Movie

Any Bond fans here? What do yall think of the new Bond? Personally, I am really excited about Craig playing Bond -- loved him in Munich so think he will do well in this. I have been counting down the days to see this so anxious that I have been playing the Bond strategy game online -- if you have not played you should check it out...

    Is it Nov. yet?

I was kind of "ho-hum" when I heard about the new bond movie and Craig. Then I realized that they are going back to earlier in the Bond saga, and that caught my interest. Still not sure if I'll see this in the theater, but I'll definitely check out the DVD. Craig looks totally hot in the Bond posters that have come out - yummy!

I am interested in seeing the movie but the trailer had me a little annoyed. If this is supposed to be the "first" James Bond movie, how can they have Judy Dench playing M? In Goldeneye I sorta remember part of the story was that she had just become M. Also is John Cleese going to play Q in Casino Royale because they did the same thing in the 2nd last Bond movie (can't remember the name) when he took over for the old Q who retired. It messes me up when they play with history like that and use the same actors.

I wasn't too keen on Daniel Craig playing Bond because I wanted it to be Gerard Butler (supposedly the second choice). But. . now that I've seen the trailers and photos of Daniel in a speedo, I am more enthused. The man has a fantastic body and is a pretty good actor. I think he'll be good and I am looking forward to the movie.

Yeah, I was the same way -- was not wild about him at first but now I have warmed up to him and really looking forward to his performance. I think he is a great clip. And I dont mind that he is blonde -- some do but Roger Moore was blonde and no one had a problem....

Have any of yall played the game yet?

EVERY James Bond movie is the "new James Bond movie" at one point or another.

I think the idea is that the people who play the other roles are like stock players--it matters less who is in the role, and less where they came from, that the role itself does.

In other words, the mistake was in ever claiming that M HAD changed, rather than simply plopping Dench down and acting like she'd always been the one playing it. Q, Moneypenny, heck even Bond himself are supposed to be interchangible in a sense, and the mess is only made when you try and explain the casting changes through story changes.

Casino Royale, of course, HAS to be the first Bond film because of how its written. But I think they should take advantage of this and truly use it as a franchise reboot. To me that means they can remake the entire franchise, but do so IN THE REAL ORDER THE BOOKS WERE SET. Note that the original run of films were not shot in even close to that order. "Live and Let Die", for example, was the 2nd Bond book, while being the 8th film. "Moonraker" was the 3rd book and the 11th film (and dying to be remade more than many others BECAUSE it was such a lackluster film). "From Russia with Love" would realistically have to probably be remade a "From China with Love" these days, and that will probably still be true in a few years. Whether or not the "movies" which were originally only short stories should be bothered with, or conversely if the short stories never made into films before now should now be, is yet another subject. And the Kingsley Amis, John Gardner, and Raymond Benson books even yet another.

    Novel/collection order:
    1 - 1953 Casino Royale
    2 - 1954 Live and Let Die
    3 - 1955 Moonraker
    4 - 1956 Diamonds Are Forever
    5 - 1957 From Russia with Love
    6 - 1958 Dr. No
    7 - 1959 Goldfinger
8 - 1960 For Your Eyes Only (short story collection--includes both "For Your Eyes Only" and "A View To A Kill", plus the lesser known "Risico", "The Hildebrand Rarity", and the non-spyish "Quantum of Solace")
    9 - 1961 Thunderball
10 - 1962 The Spy Who Loved Me
    11 - 1963 On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    12 - 1964 You Only Live Twice
13 - 1965 The Man with the Golden Gun
14 - 1966 Octopussy and The Living Daylights (short story collection--originally contained only the two title stories, but in later editions stories named "The Property of a Lady" and "007 in New York" were added)

    Film order:
    1 - 1962 Dr. No
    2 - 1963 From Russia With Love
    3 - 1964 Goldfinger
    4 - 1965 Thunderball
    5 - 1967 You Only Live Twice
    6 - 1969 On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    7 - 1971 Diamonds Are Forever
    8 - 1973 Live and Let Die
9 - 1974 The Man with the Golden Gun
10 - 1977 The Spy Who Loved Me
    11 - 1979 Moonraker
    12 - 1981 For Your Eyes Only
    13 - 1983 Octopussy
    14 - 1985 A View to a Kill
    15 - 1987 The Living Daylights
    16 - 1989 Licence to Kill
    17 - 1995 GoldenEye
    18 - 1997 Tomorrow Never Dies
19 - 1999 The World is Not Enough
    20 - 2002 Die Another Day
    21 - 2006 Casino Royale (2006)
    22 - 2008 (projected) "Bond 22"

Just found the myspace page and thought I would share...good stuff on there.

For the CR gamers, it goes to the game interface and you can cheat code and directions on how to play by texting Bond for some tips and tricks -- how anyone done this? Also, you can enter to win a trip to the Bahamas -- looks like I need to get busy

Saw a commercial last night for this while watching Lost and I get more and more excited each time I see something for it. Looks so good -- I have almost made it out the airport too on the game...determined.

Just saw Casino Royale. It was GREAT! Loved it! Daniel Craig is terrific in the role. He is Bond - a rough around the edges, less suave, blonder, shorter, and very very sexy Bond (with a killer body). No, he isn't as handsome as Connery or Dalton, or as suave as Moore, or as classy and pretty as Brosnan - but he is a better actor (in my opinion) than any of them and brings an athletic catlike grace and masculine presence to the role. Also - the movie is great - good story, great chase scene, good chemistry between the leads, and more character driven than others have been.
