Kind of pitiful I'm the first response to this thread.
I actually liked this movie. It wasn't great but it was good and I got caught up in it. I think the Coast Guard is awesome! I served four years in the Army and I've always said if I had it to do over again I'd go Coast Guard.

It was cheesy at times and the acting could have been better but it was a pretty good story. There were times I wondered if a scene was taken straight out of An Officer and a Gentleman. It has got me wanting more movies like this.

Re: The Guardian

I think this was a good movie. It was probably one of Ashton Kutchers better movies.

Re: The Guardian

When I first saw the trailers for this movie...I thought Kevin and Ashton? Really? We watched it on DVD when it came out and I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't too bad and Kevin and Ashton actually had a nice chemistry together. I wouldn't run out to buy this movie, but I don't feel I wasted 90 minutes of my life watching it either.

Re: The Guardian

I loved this movie, and it resonated later during the reality show, Deadliest Catch when thay spoke of, and showed footage of, the Coast Guard divers out of Kodiak. There is no way, though, for a viewer of the movie or the show to truly feel the icy cold conditions they have to work in.

Ashton Krutcher continues to surprise me with his acting skill, and Kevin Costner has turned into a crusty character actor - good for him. There was a bit of Officer and A Gentleman sass and that kept the "romance" portion of the movie from becoming maudlin.

I'm glad they made a movie about the Coast Guard. A telling segment was when one said that all the crews are trained exactly the same so when they are needed at a disaster such as Katrina, they become interchangeable for tasks and procedures. These are very brave men and women on the front line of Homeland defense.
